I always assumed waymo would immediately kill uber, but really the likelihood is that there will be multiple self driving companies as well as human drivers in markets. A big city may need 2000 waymos most of the time, but 5000 waymos on a saturday night or when a big game is on. Google can either build 2.5x as many as they need, or they can keep other operators in the market to make the service more functional during peak times. It is likely that other operators will bring cars to market, and a unified app with different self driving providers will bring better service than any individual provider.

Propofol is great isn’t it! I worked with some old guys who did some of the original studies demonstrating safety of propofol anaesthesia in MH. The world is much better for people with MH than it was 30 years ago, as long as they have a way to inform their doctors of the condition.

Paediatric anaesthesiologist here.
We mostly use propofol/remifent for maintenance of anaesthesia, and there is (some) reasonable evidence that this leads to less emergence delirium than sevoflurane. We use EEG-like monitors in all paralysed patients over a few months old.
Annoyingly I can’t access the full study, but would be interested to know why the kids in the low sevoflurane use group weren’t moving or coughing with surgical stimulation. The commonly used doses of sevoflurane are used because they are supposed to inhibit movement in response to noxious stimulus. So presumably these patients are all being paralysed or given a lot of opioid to stop them moving?
Using sevoflurane instead of propofol for maintenance if you are trying to reduce PAED is not really standard of care and makes me suspicious they are trying to overstate the effectiveness of their device.

From chatgpt: “ In summary, Halle Tecco’s personal portfolio comprises about 34 direct investments, of which 24 have at least one female founder (as detailed above). This means roughly 70% of these companies were co-founded or founded by women. Notable female-founded companies in her portfolio include Everly Health (Julia Cheek), Cityblock Health (Dr. Toyin Ajayi), Kindbody (Gina Bartasi), Tia (Carolyn Witte/Felicity Yost), Hued (Kimberly Wilson), and many others listed in the first section. Halle Tecco’s investment focus has clearly encompassed a large number of startups with women on the founding team, aligning with her advocacy for female entrepreneurs in health tech ”
Call it charity or call it buying gal-pals with hubby’s money but primarily investing based on identity seems like a bad idea

The solution to ALL of this is a very simple randomised controlled trial. Identify 1000 pregnant women in a fluorinated area, give half of them free unfluorinated bottled water for their pregnancy and first 2 years of babies life, and let the other half drink tap water, then measure all of the kids’ iqs at 5 years.
Sadly noone has done this because the topic is too radioactive for most researchers or science funders to touch.
