SEEKING FREELANCER | Remote, Europe timezone, senior full-stack Typescript (UX/QA as well)
Half Dome Labs is working on a code generation platform to make it easier to generate the boilerplate of full-stack applications so developers can spend more of their time on coding the complex portions of their apps. It's already being used by two clients and we're hoping to expand the functionality of the app this year to encompass more use-cases like UI design and authorization rules.
We're looking for senior full-stack Typescript contractors who can help architect and implement the generators as well as the UI to interact with the generator. Preference for folks who have worked with open source projects or developer tools.
We're also looking for a senior UX designer and QA/content writer specialist if you fall into that category. (see other job posts on the link below)
Stack: React, Prisma, GraphQL, Typescript, Node.JS, Fastify, Tailwind, Apollo
Job Post Link: https://www.halfdomelabs.com/jobs/2024-01-full-stack-develop...

As far as ecosystem impact goes, it seems Verily's approach can be easily controlled as they releasing roughly the same number of mosquitoes as they are eliminating from the fertile population. This contrasts with the gene drive approach, which has recently been shown to be successful at eliminating populations albeit in an experimental setting [1]. Given their theoretical ability to spread throughout an entire ecosystem within only a few generations, it seems like that is a potential panacea though with a much higher risk of unintended consequences.
[1] https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/study--gene-drive...

Having just bought a $2200 Macbook Pro, the mark-up is definitely hard to ignore (a Dell XPS laptop with equal or better specs comes out to $1400 - admittedly without the Mac OS). However, because they can command such a high mark-up, it's easier for them to charge more for upgrades, e.g. $200 to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB which would still be a 5x markup.
It's likely that Apple knows that people who care about the price, e.g. tech people, are probably not going to pay much above the market rate for it. However, the people who aren't as tech-knowledgeable, e.g. aren't familiar with the going price, are far less sensitive to the price and therefore, they can charge substantially more.
