20+ years shipping production SaaS. Currently CTO of Allset (AI-native ops for construction trades) — multi-tenant, Stripe Connect, mobile + web; just shipped to AWS this week. Before Allset: 10 years at a private SaaS where I cut $1M+ from the AWS bill, ending as Principal Engineer. Ex-Microsoft.
I ship full features end-to-end using on a real production codebase, not a prototype.
Looking for a 12-24 month senior IC seat at a YC or AI-native startup:
• Founding Engineer / early eng at a recently-funded YC company
• Forward-Deployed Engineer at a funded AI startup
• Senior staff IC where speed + ownership matter
Email: kenbrlow@gmail.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/knbrlo/· X: @knbrlo

Even if it didn't have the intended effect of making everyone feel good, at least everyone is talking about it so in a sense it worked in Apple's favor.

This is exactly it. When you see story after story from corporate news outlets, pushing the idea that work from home causes all these mental health issues for everyone, work from home is isolating, work from home is bad for the company. It’s all because there is a vested interest somewhere. When you understand their base motivations, you understand why certain stories are ran on the news and others are not. Their base motivations are always money.
For some organizations, they do care about money, and people which is a shocking thing and yes it can be done. If employees are making their performance requirements, and the choices left to the employee that seems like the best case to support people and profit. It’s when that choice is taken away from people that you know the pure motivation is a vested interest in commercial real estate somewhere.
Also, no amount of complaining online is going to change any of this. News outlets have armies of reporters and endless amounts of money to run story after story until the narrative becomes what they want it to be. So, stepping out of the negative mindset for just a minute, just go work somewhere else that’s remote.

When publications put out things like this it reminds me of why I can't trust them. They're writing this article for clicks and attention and to feed that side of society that constantly pulls us down about what's not possible while the publication makes money from taking the other side of a issue. It's plain corruption.

That’s a really good question, to go with that I wonder how are you thinking about interfacing with that once it’s been trained?

Videoconferencing apps may listen when mic is off"

Assuming the app that's using the microphone would still need to have hardware access to be able to switch back on when someone unmutes themselves, couldn't there be a higher level API within the OS that still allowed hardware access but wouldn't allow input through so that the audio couldn't be captured in third party apps? Seems like this is an OS issue that Microsoft, Apple and Linux team need to work on if that isn't already the case.

Everyone already knows the answer which is that the most adaptable schools will generate new revenue streams offering more online degrees. It’s stupid to assume that all students are willing to take the risk to show up in person when there isn’t even a vaccine. Most schools are scared about the money they’re going to lose yet they’re forgetting how much they could make if they just decided to be more adaptable and flexible.
