the iris scan aspect is scary but the alternatives don't seem to solve the problem either.

FB does not do business in China. This is rather a risk for Apple given they store keys in the cloud and do business there fwiw.
I agree it’s a risk for almost all other countries.

How do these two align?
Why would FB sending messages that are sent encrypted (not e2e) and stored on US servers allow China to read messages?
If you allege hacking then why wouldn’t they be able to hack the devices?
Re misinformation: why would misinformation not simply happen in e2e group chats like it is already happening in e.g. Brazil or India? What’s the difference between posting to a group of friends on Facebook vs sharing a group message to those friends?
I do think messages should be encrypted but the trade off isn’t as straightforward as you make it sound.

Does good faith research in the public interest justify collecting any data through any means and storing it in any way you like ?
On paper fb seems ridiculous but I don’t want to assume that said researchers collected and stored data appropriately. Those skills aren’t necessarily available to them easily

it is not only due to quotas. there is BS request for evidence as well as random changes.
for example, they added some disease to the process (I believe gonorrhea or syphilis) and then the exam I took entering the process wasn't sufficient at the time they actually looked at the exam. then it took them a long time to send that notice, then I got the new exam and the clock started again adding around 6 months from the "we need you to test for a disease that can be easily treated if you had it" to the approval.
this is with highly paid lawyer support.

ebay just stopped paying for people who search for "ebay" and related. (these are called "brand" keywords).
that's a completely different statement than saying advertising is a fad. depending on the business it may be but ebay definitely spends a ton on keywords with buying intent.
FB is in a very different market from both brand keywords and non-brand high intent keywords.

General cultural fit = ideally you are far right wing .
Some also still require having a noble title (even to attend their parties unless you are a woman ).
My hometown has a lot of these and some of my fellow high school students were very attracted by these .
I went to a few non noble title requiring parties because my friend asked me to and it was quite shocking tbh (people singing the full German anthem including the forbidden part , a general bias towards German music and even more towards songs with excessive patriotism, a lot of “jokes” about people from other countries etc. ). They’d claim not to be racist and proving that by saying they have friends from Argentina or Chile (that happen to have German names ). I’d bet a lot that most of these fraternities vote AfD.
I also remember them throwing expensive glasses down from the balcony laughing about how poor people would have to use the same glass twice .
