I have three locality domains, all with different registrars in Oregon. Two are with unique delegated locality domain registrars (think old school consultancies or ISPs that still exist) and one directly via localitymanagement.us (GoDaddy/USTLD).
One of the registrars is from an out of state operator that has been dead for three years. I tracked his widow down and had a number of cordial conversations over about 18 months. I've helped his widow renew some personal domains but she's recently told me that she's going to stop paying the hosting bill of the locality registrar and it'll shut down June 1st. I've offered to take over hosting, we'll see if she is convinced.
Several other locality users will likely also see their domains disappear once that happens as the USTLD registrar will require a notarized letter from the city/county of that domain to approve any "new" (new in their system) domains. Not easy for any mid or large sized city in the US.
I love locality domains clearly, but the bureaucracy applied since the start has piled up over the years.
I do worry that this poor Seattle ISP is going to get DDoS'ed by outsider (find an appropriate locality please if you go down this route) due to the popularity of this article, though!
RIP Jon.

Weird, the first two auction items I checked on for Oregon (sorted by highest) were already bid for and won. Is this not clearing out finished auctions?

I love the old interent. I'll confess I have three locality domains and they are wonderful.
I'll confess I have successfully registered a locality domain this year (2025) and it was a little bit fun to go through the weird hoops to get this new domain registered.
I'm also working on/helping out a registrar whose owned died and his widow is resolving what to do with the non-profit.
A related quaint couple of blogs[1][2] if you're feeling nostalgic and motivated to register your own:
[1] https://sleepless.seattle.wa.us/2022-07-01-110449/
[2] http://nguyen.cincinnati.oh.us/locality.html

On a slightly related note, Internet Archive archivist and notable speaker Jason Scott (@textfiles) shared to his Twitter followers Juicy the Emissary's "Attention K-Mart Choppers" - an enjoyable remix from this collection.
I loved "Run Yourself Ragged" as a kid, but had no idea there were richer iterations and reflections of the game itself.
My game still exists in a cabin but is currently missing its timer and metal balls.... Need to work on that!

Sieb is a mail filter/delivery system intended to work with Qmail using the Maildir format for delivery.
It's new but with 25 years of use case exposure of procmail and maildrop for filtering/processing/delivering mail.
It's not a swiss-army solution for everything but should be worthwhile for whole sites or individual users (user rules override)
This isn't my project but I thought it was useful and new in a fairly quiet part of the Internet.

Unfortunately, the Yi Home cameras have eroded other functionality too to force their users into an upsell.
Many users are now reporting they are forced to use Kami cloud storage instead of local storage. Their ability to use the local SD card storage has been disabled in newer versions of the app.

My friend Mahlon recently re-architected his 12-year old Dynamic DNS service.
New features include subdomain support, fully documented REST API, graphed statistics on DNS queries and various other cool things that you wouldn't expect out of the boring other ones.
While there are other DynamicDNS providers out there, I've used this one for 10 years already and am very happy with the clients and the recent upgrades.
