I agree with your points. But governments around the world frequently demonstrate that they can be easily compromised.
That's why free speech is an important counterweight to political power.
I credit all those who openly spoke out against the Iraq forever war preventing similar wars since then.

One word, transparency. Being open about the research and outcomes. This is a situation good science communicators can help with.
Engage the skeptics in open debate and address their concerns, not censorship and embarking on cancellation campaigns.
However uncomfortable it seems, the median person in society isn't going to do a thorough literature review to make up their mind, they'll do it based on personal instincts.

What do you all think about the "Solve It" method by the Answer dot AI folks?
It's more like iterating on the REPL with AI in the loop, meaning the user stays in control while benefitting from AI, so real growth happens.
Interesting thing to consider, in a couple of years, will there be a differentiator between people who are good at driving company-specific AI tools and those who are generally better by having built skills the hard way ground up with benefit of AI?

Firefox doubled down on using/selling user data for advertising purposes, so that's a big reason for avoiding it.
I held onto it as someone who didn't even like the politics of the people behind it (the beauty of open source), for the sake of browser engine diversity, but changing terms of service of use of personal data was the final blow
