Because they are regional specifics, twitter or X is only big in some countries like US and Japan. Threads is doing what twitter should have done but for the rest of the world who didn't jump onto twitter.

The most important thing I bought it for was Health Tracking. Although I still don't understand why it ask me to do tacking sessions when I am simply walking faster.

2nd most useful feature is vibrate alarm.

Telling time not even that important on my list.

I don't do payment with watch. Since I think the motion of making my wrist to the counter is awkward. Since we are always on our phone it doesn't make it much simpler.

Every time there is a discussion about Optane on HN I have always said a properly tuned SLC SSD would have provided 80-90% of the performance without the cost associated with it. And the question were always "Show me one".

There isn't one simply because there was't ( yet ) a market for it. Now we have, we also have SLC and may see a come back of Z-NAND ( Samsung specially tuned SLC ).

With the insane money going around AI. Hardware industry is finally enjoying some decent profits and can afford to spend more on R&D. Looking at PCIe 7.0 with 100M IOPS and 100*GB/s next year.

Getting those done in 12 to 15 years is not exactly a high achievement by Apple's standards. I have long thought and written on HN how Apple Pay, Wallet, Apple Cash, Apple Card is under developed.

So this is another nice direction which is hope is part of John's big plan.

On another note: A lot of these personnel changes is happening under the last phase of Tim Cook as CEO. I seriously doubt this is Tim's plan given his past 10 - 12 years of management restructure and HR. My guess is likely the new structure and people are picked by John while happening ahead of time under Tim to speed up the whole transaction. And it is likely something John requested.

If that is the case, this is another win of my vote for John.

I have been calling for the roughly same rate reduction since 2014, apart from the small business programme because 5% would essentially be free once you factor in fraud protection and credit card charging fees etc.

In hindsight, it is great that they milk it for an additional 12 years. But the part I still don't understand is their insistence to not break out Games into its own Game Store. Gaming represent ~80% of the App Store Revenue. They could have kept it at 30%. While lowering the rest to more reasonable trucks as suggested here.

Instead they keep dragging it on and make the pricing structure extremely complicated with different "program".

May be your cafeteria was doing offline processing, while other were doing it online?

But even offline there are huge differences, say Visa / Mastercard EMV and Suicia's Felica in Japan, where the whole transaction finish in 150ms.

There were previously some work where they try to get it down to 50ms, I don't know if they are still working on it or has abandoned it.
