That's a bit of a miss, I don't throw away much. Restaurants and supermarkets OTOH... I understand the attempt to make me feel bad though, it would make me think I'm complicit, and shouldn't say things like that.

You could take your analogy further, and consider why the Swiss banking isn’t so opaque anymore. Hint: people who did really inhuman things used that system to store their profits, and the Swiss society, developed and stable as it is, decided that they don’t want to bear the moral cost of it anymore.

I’m sure that isn’t the full answer. Otherwise car ads wouldn’t be necessary and more affordable cars would outcompete the expensive ones.

There’s the utility component, the prestige factor and other things.

The brutal industrial logic governing culture has been extended by the advancements in technology.

It’s not that I want them to suffer, it’s that them being rewarded incentivizes suboptimal behavior and outcomes. Markets don’t work anymore. Which results in even more suffering.

Maybe because in 50 western countries nobody bothers you and the 1 exception, the UK did some weird stuff with online policing. The courts don’t sentence for that even in the UK, all you hear about are police actions.

They’re also declining hard because of brexit and maybe fear public unrest.

And in China for dissent you go to a reeducation camp. Or maybe the China incidents aren’t newsworthy, just expected.

GP is a pampered 1st world baby simulating „difficulty” in his life because of decadent boredom, likely spending tens of thousands of dollars per year unnecessarily, living in an oversized dwelling with access to education, healthcare, plumbing, a robust justice system and a social safety net.

This point of view implies that the revered "great men" should be stripped of their wealth and power as much as possible. They're not necessary for history, so no need to disproportionally allocate resources to them.
