I built an MCP that can search my database of software engineer jobs which is updated every hour.

You can ask it things like "Find me 10 remote jobs that pay at least 150k" or "Find me the most interesting job posted today"

It feels like every month a quote from Anthropic goes viral about how SWEs won't exist in the future due to AI.

I wanted to see if Anthropic is actually hiring less as a result of AI. So, I compiled a dataset of their monthly SWE job openings juxtaposed with quotes from execs about AI replacement.

The results are clear: Anthropic is claiming that SWE jobs will go away, while simultaneously hiring more SWEs than ever. Since Jan '25 their open SWE roles are up 170% and the curve is accelerating.

It's important to remember that AI companies have an incentive to claim that their tech will automate away jobs because that's what their customers/investors want to hear.

1995 was a simpler time. There was no react, SSR, component libraries, and developers only had 4MB of RAM to work with.

If you ask me, UIs have only gone downhill since then. So I created windows95jobs.com so people can experience the joy of simpler software while looking for a new SWE job.

I'm using 4o-mini + structured output mode

I built GrepJob because I got frustrated with the user experience of LinkedIn/Indeed while looking for a new SWE job.

Specifically: 1) Not being able to trust the date posted of any job. The date shown on LinkedIn is often the date the job was reposted by the recruiter and 2) Being shown too many irrelevant jobs. For example, I get shown senior/staff level roles when I search for "Software Engineer II"

GrepJob solves 1) by populating the date_posted time directly from each company's ATS system And 2) by extracting seniority, specialty (frontend, backend, etc.), and tech stack from each job with LLMs

I think your strategy for applications depends a lot on what companies you're applying to and your experience. If you are applying to a smaller company that is likely to read your application then it might be worthwhile to tailor your application.

For very competitive jobs I didn't find tailoring my applications to be worthwhile. I spent many hours writing cover letters and tailoring my resume for companies that I ultimately never heard back from. I found that time was better spent applying to more jobs

That said, I don't think mass applications are the only strategy job seekers should employ. I think a combination of mass applications, cold outreach via email + linkedin, warm outreach to your network, and maybe a few tailored applications to roles you really want is best to maximize your odds

There is another company https://scale.jobs/ which does what you described. They have a chrome extension which you use to delegate jobs to them on linkedin and they apply for you. It effectively adds an easy apply button to every job.

To speed up job applications that you do yourself I would recommend https://simplify.jobs/. Their application autofiller is free and performs well on workday in my experience

Do you find linkedin sufficient for finding jobs? Or do you typically check company career pages too?
