As someone who's been trying to do something VERY similar (port Mac OS 9 to the Nintendo Wii U), all I can say is I'm 1) absolutely impressed, and 2) absolutely encouraged, as my project keeps telling me "this is impossible" at every opportunity.

Reminds me of a funny WWII story:

Kenneth Arrow and his statisticians found that their long-range forecasts were no better than numbers pulled out of a hat. The forecasters agreed and asked their superiors to be relieved of this duty. The reply was: "The Commanding General is well aware that the forecasts are no good. However he needs them for planning purposes."

No one cares about the aggregated sum you spent, and something tells me that instead of directly saying how much the average user was paid, the PR team chose to divulge the total amount because it sounds better (someone must have pat themselves on the back when they phrased it as "we paid users $300K").

Honest advice: free yourself from that and live a happier life. And I don't mean it in an "ignorance is bliss" kind of way, on the contrary really. Otherwise, to be consistent, you'd need to

- demand your salary be paid in salt

- have all arenas be covered in sand

- calculate only with pebbles

- only allow xylophones made of wood

And so on. It's a tiring journey to embark on -- oops, one can only embark on ships...

Wouldn't it make more sense to display the samples at 100% in the article? Had to open the images in a new tab to fully appreciate the dithering.

KDX's UI really was something else.

I remember first learning about torrents from a KDX server that had a folder with instructions on "how to download Matrix Reloaded at full speed". Downloaded some suspicious "BitTorrent" (I remember thinking the name was appropriate for what it promised) client along with a funny ".torrent" file"... and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the transfer speed use the entirety of my 256kbps connection.

Holy wow just yesterday I was toying with Travesty. I had no idea it existed back then and only found it recently when I went page by page through Macintosh Garden's whole database, so it's great to see someone mention it!

Seeing new software being released for the classic Mac is freakin' awesome, please keep up the great work. I just wish Macintosh (either 68k or PowerPC) emulators improved a bit more, I no longer have a functioning machine and they're not getting any cheaper.

This might be just a personal rant, but I hate, despise, abhor squircles.

For some (irrational, I admit) reason, to me they are a visual reminder of all that went wrong in computing since the times the rounded rectangle was king. The vision of squircles in any UI instantly produces in me a sensation of a patronizing voice saying "don't you just LOVE walled gardens and app stores and closed hardware and ads and...".

Of course the squircles themselves are innocent, but what can I do.

The mbin file can be opened with StuffIt Expander, it contains the installer application.
