In the context of a planing catamaran, flying refers to allowing the windward hull to lift out of the water in order to minimize wetted surface area. These boats, especially the Hobie 16, were quite popular in the 70s and 80s.

There already exists tight constraints on field grade. The mounting hardware has limits to how much one section can differ from the next. You can imagine that you need each horizontal beam some maximum number of degrees from parallel, and the vertical posts will only have so much extra length to account for variation.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are summer visits to my great uncles farm. Playing with a cow magnet in the dirt under the bench grinder in the tractor barn is one of them. I remember them being strong, but I was 10.

I don't know if this is what Fridman is doing, but interviewers will often ask naive questions that they already know the answer to on behalf of an audience who might not.

My understanding is that port’s usage is somewhat recent. In the English sailing world the opposite of starboard was larboard. The royal navy made the change within the last few hundred years.
