Insurance needs to be not-for-profit or a government enterprise. Physical projects and infrastructure should not be started until risk is assessed. Speculators and go-go finance has ought to be constrained. As for myself, I am choosing alternative ways to plan, finance, build, and manage infrastructure project. The current systems is a non-starter for most people under 50.

I believe these efforts are very important. If we want this stuff to be practical we are going to have to work on efficiency. Price efficiency is good. Power and compute efficiency would be better.
I have been playing with llama.cpp to run interference on conventional cpus. No conclusions but it's interesting. I need to look at llamafile next.

I'm working with models and the costs are ridiculous. $7000 card and 800 watts later for my small projects and I can't imagine how they can make money in the next 5 to 10 years. I need to do more research on hardware approaching that reduces costs and power consumption. I just started experimenting with llama.cpp and I'm mildly impressed.

I suppose students need to prepare to defend what they are writing. Also, teachers may need a bit of a demotion when making accusations of plagiarism or generated papers. Teachers at the very least should be able to reasonably prove their accusations. There is a greater problem with tutors writing students papers. If teachers and students worked more closely this wouldn't be an issue.
