<p>CGI is great actually, and most people have no idea when they are watching CGI stuff.<p>It's just that being able to do just about anything, down to implausible camera movements, requires restraint, and sometimes that's lacking.<p>(also low budget stuff might look bad, but that applies for every single thing)</p>

<p>I didn't really care for the story itself that much, I was more fascinated by the whaling culture and the glimpse it provided of the views of that time and place, along with its fantastic writing. Which is why for me it wasn't a slog at all.</p>

<p>I live in the south of Brazil, it's pretty safe, but it depends on the city.<p>You can go pretty far with 1k USD here. Also pretty well served in terms of free healthcare, but I don't know how it works for foreigners.</p>
