I'm probably repeating what others had said but might as well join in on the very classic hnews saga of talking about a conversational topic in super autistic detail lol.
On the one hand its there site so they can do what they want and tbh its pretty easy to self host your own git server nowdays (which i do) however the issue i do have with this and really its a wider issue i have with the industry as whole:
I feel like we focus way to much ideology's and moral grandstanding which we then insert that into tech projects so seeing stuff like this makes we want to avoid using this site with a 10 foot pole. Can we just focus on tech not some moral grandstanding about politics, crypto blah blah but i guess thats too hard of a thing to ask or something

Personally I gave up on Linux laptops due to the amazing battery life m series has and the driver issues. Maybe when we get better arm laptop Linux support it might be a different story

from just reading the post sounds like a shit situation for him and there is blame on the linux kernel maintainers for not handling it well. Especially if the claim about them going behind his back and shit talking him is true.
What i will say, Is that i get the impression that the he is quite sensitive and takes things too personally which is a death wish online. People are savage online and if you don't have thick skin then they will destroy you. Not justifying it but it is what it is
Either way hope all goes well for him. Sad to see this happen i bought a m2 mac because of linux support :(

well this is a surprise, He was my old lecture (one of the best at my university tbh). Was always obsessed with formal verification. I remember him trying make us use a formal verification programming language he created called whiley, Which was a java based language and was pretty terrible and filled with bugs lol but had some cool ideas in it
