There’s always a financial angle in most situations. After all, taking care of a really sick patient (or someone with a difficult condition) costs the state money. If you read the article there are sighs that this may have been a consideration in some cases they list.

Did you seriously just suggest that Amazon time the individualistic liquid consumption and bladders of their drivers? Do you have any idea how much outrage that would cause?

At least you could suggest retrofitting each truck with a urinal. That would make more sense despite being equally untenable.

Because there is a belief, not unfounded, that some portion of refugees (percentage depends on party affiliation) are lying about their situation and are actually just economic migrants.

Consider that paper filters may be more environmentally friendly than metal ones. Just look at a comparison of CO2 emissions between reusable bags and paper ones as an example. You’ll probably have to use a metal filter thousands of times more past its expected life span to break even with how much CO2 making it released into the atmosphere.

Yes. Hire an architect with a proven track record and significant experience and give them the responsibility. Reading a few medium articles or an O’Reily book won’t be a substitute.

Agreed. Retrieving a single random record was enough to prove vulnerability. Analyzing several days worth of data (why??? What does that prove???) crosses the line firmly into black hat territory.

The real root cause is that everyone wants to live (for obvious reasons) in places where housing supply is constrained like SF, LA, or NYC. Home ownership is easy in places like Detroit or Oklahoma boonies, but unsurprisingly no one wants to go there.

Instead of cramming more people onto the same set of square mikes, how about we develop more (non coastal) places for people to aspire moving to instead?

Not everyone has to or should move to California.

At some point one (ideally both to avoid conflict later) will have to decide to go all in on your idea or otherwise it will always limp along due to the two of you not having enough time to devote to it.

Sure, but that doesn’t stop us from trying to influence people in other areas, so why should it stop us here. By this argument we should abolish all laws because what’s the point of telling someone “don’t murder” when “people are going to do what they want”?

Your post makes it sound like you are also against taxing cigarettes or taxing cars with big engines or banning guns since we should not (or it would be pointless) to influence behavior in such ways.

In all these discussions we forget that science is “created” by humans and thus just as fallible as humans are.

“Trust in science or “because science” are just ways to shut down discussion or lines on inquiry that dare question the existing narrative.

Don’t believe me? Here’s an example.

Have you ever wondered, just hypothetically, if the Covid outbreak may have had any relation to the bio research lab located in Wuhan?

Well, you can’t wonder about that. If you do, being called a conspiracy theorist is the nicest thing anyone will say about you. If you think this is a good thing then you’ll be in for a rude awakening hen you happen to find yourself on the wrong side of the “scientific” debate.

None by themselves. Every news source has an agenda; no exceptions. That’s like asking: what’s one food I can eat forever and stay healthy? Our only recourse is to consume a varied diet of news sources.

One tool we do have now is the ability to subscribe to youtubers and similar people who try to make a living from telling you about the news. The benefit here is that you have them search through news for you and then give you a summary or analysis.

Obviously I won’t mention names because someone will immediate chime in to start an argument. You’ll have to do your own digging.

You are looking at COVID too high level. Plenty of people agree that it exists, but disagree with the details. Everything from just how serious the disease is, to how virulent, to effectiveness of masks, to how it was even released i to the “wild”.

Obviously I won’t give examples of any of the above dissenting points because that’s a good way to get banned here and in any other space where the socio-political narrative is enforced.

Edit: Furthermore I’m not saying anything about my own opinions in the question. Just giving my answer to the OP’s confusion.
