Signed commits could solve this in a more decentralized way if people post their public keys on their own domains.

Agreed. A lot of Google products feel anti-social (like Google glass). They are definitely missing a human touch. Perhaps a byproduct of elitism and leet code grind filtering of employees mixed with founder personality.

There are far more dangerous countries with nuclear weapons than Iran (such as Israel). If Iran had nukes, we'd all be safer as Israel/US would be faced with MAD and would be unable to use nuclear weapons against Iran.

Investing in domestic infrastructure would generate even greater returns. Yes, through some financial hand waving, we may funnel money spent on bombs back to US military contractors, but imagine if that same money was spent on a high speed rail system. It would unlock greater efficiency and logistics with the same money staying with US contractors. That's a purely financial take and not even touching on humanitarian or ecological costs of imperialism.

I didn't say that the pro-Israel position is mythical. I said that no one became pro-Israel because people are saying that Israel is committing genocide. They were pro-Israel to start and just use that as a rhetorical device to try to get people to stop saying Israel is committing genocide.

It was you who made the claim that identifying Israel's actions as a genocide (as agreed upon by many genocide experts and international organizations) was an "own-goal". That is to say that by your logic, if you feel that Israel is committing genocide, you should keep quiet about it because you may turn some mythical constituency into a pro-Israel position by simply stating that opinion.

> The fixation on the term "genocide" has been a major own-goal for advocates of Palestinians
While I, and many others think that Israel is committing genocide, this is not an "own-goal". The only people playing semantics here are Zionists who are staunchly pro-Israel.

Ownership means just that, owning the company. The people pushing to place additional burden on workers are the actual owners (the investors and C level execs). Quite the hubris to create a fake class of "ownership" that only extends to taking responsibility and being held accountable but carries none of the benefits of actual ownership.

Whenever someone at work tells you to take more ownership, the correct response is: "Sure, I'll take more RSUs". Of course, that's never what they mean. Ownership for me, responsibility for thee.

All of the reasons to avoid GitHub are also reasons to avoid the Digital Ocean App platform and Vercel. I use Digital Ocean, but just the VPSs. Don't let yourself get vendor locked in with these middle men, retain control and shoot for the most universal level of the stack you can.

The locals are living their lives on an organic cadence. They're not maximizing entertainment value or whatever. They will certainly know entertaining things to do, but it's literally not their job to entertain tourists. Maybe seeking out a Disneyland like experience in someone else's home is the problem? Bourdain, Rick Steves, et al. are fun to watch, but I can't help but feel they've actually made the world a worse place by romanticizing tourism. There are many sayings about how travel reduces prejudice... but if you actually look at it at scale, it's almost always a global negative.
