Steve Jobs existed in an era where he could show us new technology when new technology brought a sense of joy and amazement; whereas due to a multitude of factors, new technology no longer causes such emotions for a substantial portion of people.

Agreed. I'm very pro-solar but there should be incentives for residential solar and solar on commercial buildings first. Covering up farmland and natural environments should be a last resort.

I don't even think this is an appropriate analogy worth answering. Goodwill are selling products to consumers in a direct exchange of money-for-goods.

An open-source project receiving open-source contributions from (often anonymous) volunteers is not even close to analogous to a storefront selling products with a consumer guarantee they are backing on the basis of their supply chain.

How do these withstand strong winds? How are they secured to the ground? Where I live we've had 21 of the last 30 days with a gust over 50km/h, with one day gusting 113km/h.

Unless the structure is _very well_ secured to the ground, the fabric material looks like a rather inviting windsail, and the supporting structure doesn't seem to inspire confidence either. My immediate thought is that these very much look "designed for where it's 72°F and Sunny", and don't reflect real-world post-disaster conditions.

I will never understand why people continue to spam PiHole as a solution to blocking the ads of services that stream their ads from the same domain (as YouTube does).

Presumably people that _actually run_ PiHole instances (like myself) will know this, which makes me wonder what demographic is making this appear as a valid suggestion.

Given wind power is often co-located with farming, agriculture, or even reforestation, I don't buy this claim in the slightest. The only footprint that needs counting here is that area of the tower on the ground itself—and that's without even considering offshore wind.

To be fair, SpaceX hasn't cut costs by an order of magnitude. They've made things significantly cheaper, but the list price for a barebones Falcon 9 is about $50-60m, while an Atlas V is around $100-120m.
