I believe if this was true, we'd already be seeing vibed stuff succeeding everywhere, and pricing out incumbents, but I guess I'm not seeing this? Like at all?

Even if they have Astra or whatever completely to themselves, how do they deal with the -product- side? Or sales, or account management?

They've been focused on juicing model's coding capabilities, but it's absolutely -not- "gen ai" enough to be doing the whole thing in agents, even 3 or 5 years from now, if only because there's so much context we _can't_ give to these models, without reverse centauring ourselves with cameras and mics and oodles of compute everywhere, and so far that hasn't exactly been playing out the way the frontier labs and the singularity folk hoped it would (meta glasses? humane? really?)

there's another interesting issue on OSX which I've got a patch for in my homebrew version: on OS X, sleeping in a thread can hang, which causes LSP issues for me (through the `lsp-auto-install` package, since it downloads in a thread). The bug thread is interesting, but seems to have petered out; the patch works for me though!

This is racket's [rhombus], which might be an interesting second link here; it's a scheme, underneath, with the full power of Racket libs available.

[`shrubbery`], the replacement for s-exprs, is pretty interesting, expanding s-expr simply with grouping, and then a separate infix-pass on top. I've been playing with using it as the basis for a separate language; it's in an interesting place in the AST space, especially given the forethought put into macros.

The talk goes line by line through this code [1]; I've been transcribing and taking notes on this for the last week, for a somewhat similar project actually.

If you're interested, I've got a huge pile of papers and links collected here [2] that you might enjoy. I've read everything, but right now it's still a big ol' mush; there's a _ton_ of prior art!

I'll add my 2c, and say that even with a really fluid password manager flow, "signin with X" is usually a 1-click entry (possibly 2 for scope authorization), rather than a signup form + leaving the site to click through an email verification.

I'd much prefer 1password to do it's "you last signed in with github here" popup, than just have easy new passwords created.

in this tool (and others I've seen, maybe zulip does this), you can mark threads as "done", and mark messages as canonical.

with slack, it's easy to have a thread with 15 different answers which are all slightly different.

The "knowledge retention" features I'm looking for is being able to mark a thread as "this is the decision made", have that highlighted in metadata and archival, maybe be able to link off to a notion page, and have the thread closed to finalize the decision.

EDIT: the number of times I've had to kick people off a thread because they're adding bad info during a crisis reallllly drives my desire for marking canonical messages lol

I was very surprised these weren't piezo or turbine based, but rather harvesting voltage differences in the water droplets itself.

Could a piezo collect current like this, on a solar panel sized sheet? I'd imagine it's not an insignificant amount of power during a downpour.

For folks coming here later, you can figure out the order that you should view them in by reading into the `.fsproj` file, which will lay out compile units in order.

yeah! I used to work at that StorageTek location, before they sold to Sun and then Oracle.

Conoco bought the land like 10 years back and demolished the old offices for a "clean energy lab" IIRC , though that never happened and now Tape Drive (and Disk Drive, on the western side of the campus) just deadend into a large empty field.

The fact that those offices are gone feels like a weird message about tech, but i don't know what it is.

Sorry, this bugged me enough to try and find some data:

Google took me to Wikipedia[0], which took me to a conference paper[1]:

In a corpus of about 400 news articles from 2010 onwards (via Lexus Nexus search), they found 52 deaths related to navigation technologies, which accounted for about 25% of the incidents they recorded.

57% of the incidents were collisions; someone running into something due to GPS giving bad directions.

20% total involved being stranded.

That's over ~6 years of US, UK, Canadian & Austrailian news reports.

It may not be uncommon for GPS to kinda suck, but it is _very_ rare for GPS to kill people.

If your 7y/o is into the switch, you might give Nintendo's Game Builder Garage[0] a shot; it's a pretty fun engaging node-based visual programming environment for building games on the switch.

My 7y/o has really enjoyed it, and she talks to me a lot about the stuff she's building.
