<p>Looks like things started to get _much_ better after Virgo joined.  I assume that is because of the increased "baseline" (angular resolution) and because two different instruments at different locations makes it easier to detect & reject spurious signals.</p>

<p>OK fair enough, to me the opposition to the weak AP just seems to be people "unhappy" that a physical constant should need to be that precise.<p>In other words, for some reason they expect the universe to be more "understandable" or "sensible" than this . . .<p>Of course the strong AP is ludicrous in the extreme ;)</p>

<p>Isn't this just a form of "survivor bias"?  I don't get why anthropic arguments are considered "weak".<p>The article seems to just be complaining that anthropic arguments cannot explain the precise _value_ of the fine structure constant.  Well, nor can Occam's Razor, but we don't seem to have a problem quoting that!</p>
