The story starts with a German man, John Boepple, in his button shop in Germany. He immigrates to the US with the resolve to search for more freshwater mussels. So yes, it is relevant if you're interested in telling a story of the events that transpired.

Not universally true, I use banking apps on my Pixel running the latest GrapheneOS. There is literally nothing I cannot do on my phone. I think it's possible that no US banks have apps that can be used as it seems a universal experience among Americans.

Yea it's probably to have a catchy name and get some attention. Although it's technically accurate to call it 4D since it includes time, I think 3D video recording would probably get the point across to more people in a less sensationalist way.

What are you talking about? How does this relate to anything in the discussion? Besides, you were denigrating the intelligence of the average person, as though that's the reason they don't acquire all the skills necessary to have digital privacy.
Ironically, that's a stupid assumption to have. You might be in your own bubble, but I know many very intelligent people who do not have the time or interest in gaining digital privacy. It's not as easy or without compromise as you seem to think.

That's probably the most self-aggrandizing interpretation. Could it be that other people have other priorities or interests rather than spending their time figuring out how to obtain digital privacy without compromising in the areas they care about? No surely it's their low "cognitive capital" /s

Fair enough, but on the flipside I wanted to point out that for at least some of us it's possible to use GrapheneOS with no compromises to the experience. Usually you only hear about those telling you categorically that you "can't" use banking, government and other sensitive apps when that's not true. Anyone on the fence should try it out themselves.

I use GrapheneOS daily and use banking, government, and other sensitive apps without problem. It's a common myth that you can't use those apps on GrapheneOS.

I think it's assumed that it's within reason and in situations where the ultimatum has the purpose of pushing you into a situation you would prefer not to be in. The WoW example is an example of dysfunctional behavior and the HR example is a routine process and not unexpected from the recipient nor is the cost of filling it in extreme. Your examples don't apply and it should be obvious why.

Do you think it's possible to pay a new group of people and have them care as much as the people who met voluntarily out of sheer interest and dedication to their community? I doubt it.
Edit: not that I'm against paying mods, I support that. But replacing enthusiast mods with paid mods, I doubt that'll be adequate.

NL is meant as Netherlands here and the context is that since you can't talk about growing cannabis in the open, people talk about their "vegetable" gardens or "herbs" instead. The comment you're responding to is implying that the grow tent is used to grow cannabis but he's covering it up by saying it's a vegetable garden.
