Does google allow you to preauthorize your purchasing card? It seems like part of this is that they all of the sudden get suspicious about your billing information.

This is a good point. When you're skilled and have a good network, there's no point in putting up with a bad manager or an uninteresting or underpaid role.

I think it’s a lot more complicated than your oversimplification. For example, where does a quid-pro-quo relationship fit into your categories?

Saying leaked out of “ego” is equivalent to saying it was leaked “because”. We know it was something internal to the leaker’s psyche, but research should help us understand what led up to that point and how it could have been avoided.

For example, would you say a gossiper gossips because of “ego”?

Me too. I recently went to YouTube to see examples of a specific type of stone fruit grafting and was not disappointed. So many great examples for such a niche thing.

Hard to sympathize with an owner of two Tesla’s complaining his/her pericular edge case is being overlooked. The vast amount of people will be covered with WiFi. The rest of the Teslii owners can buy a cheap WiFi hotspot for a month.

Git is a use-case that is excellent for 90% of development. Sqlite is just an example where the use-case isn't necessarily ideal, not an indicator that it's "better" than git.

I was recently testing the water with some Facebook engineers about switching companies because of privacy related concerns. There was some sympathy wrt the company going in a bad direction, but by and large they were staying put because they enjoyed the technical challenges presented to them and pay. I think stories like this are mostly fluff. Most engineers simply don’t care.

We’re at the point now where labels such as “capitalist” and “communist” is meaningless. China is a purported communist country but is minting more billionaires per year than any other country.

I wish I could agree. Half of the time I spent on my last linux laptop was spent frustratingly trying to get things to work. The screen font was too small for some stuff, too big for others. It didn't wake up from sleep properly. sometimes it didn't GO to sleep properly. It was death by a thousand cuts.

Initially I saw an Apple logo and was genuinely surprised, but after realizing it was an HP logo I was much less so.

It would be really interesting to see what each company does to protect the health of batteries. I bet there’s a huge difference between them.
