I highly recommend a visit. It’s only a beautiful ferry ride and nice walk along the waterfront away from San Francisco. A refreshingly retro and analog experience.

Thank you! We generally try to stay in line with the supported versions of the technologies we use: Postgres, NodeJS, Redis, etc.
For Postgres in particular, part of the motivation for doing this upgrade when we did was (besides the very meaningful performance improvements) is that Postgres 12 will no longer be supported by Aurora after February 25, 2025.[0]
Officially, Medplum v3 (our current newest version) requires Postgres 12+. We're just about to release v4 which will support 13-17 based on the support dates published by Postgres[1]. We're still finalizing more formal documentation on our versioning strategy going forward.
[0]. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraPostgreSQ...
[1]. https://www.postgresql.org/support/versioning/

Hey HN,
I put together this blog post[0] and this repository[1] with supporting resources to immortalize the decision tree and step-by-step run book I used that led to us successfully upgrading the AWS RDS Aurora Postgres database of Medplum's hosted service from v12 to v16 without downtime. There are many write-ups out there on the topic, but just about all of them were frustratingly light on details or assumed the reader was already fluent in the technologies used. This guide and the runbook are anything but light on details and attempts to explain/describe decisions and steps from first principles when possible.
As just about anyone who has worked with Postgres version upgrades and logical replication will tell you, there are many sharp edges and a steep learning curve that can only be overcome by doing. I have varying levels of experience with the tools used and by no means claim to be an expert in any of them! I'm sure there are ways this process could be improved and streamlined and would absolutely love to hear any suggestions and field questions from you either here or in the issues/discussions/PRs of the repository.
Medplum[2] relies heavily on Postgres and we only intend on deepening our relationship with it and all it has to offer as we continue to grow. That was a big part of our reasoning to justify investing the time to level-up our operational proficiency with Postgres. We're an open source company, so it felt right to make this guide open source too!
[0]: https://www.medplum.com/blog/zero-downtime-postgres-major-ve...

Agreed. I frequently go running by (all?) the filming locations they used. With the exception of the Hippie Hill location in GGP, I rarely, if ever, see homeless at any of the others.
As an aside, a few weeks ago I ran by a film crew with a lot of privacy fences set up at the location by the Warming Hut with bay and GGB in the background. Now I know what they were filming!

Congrats, Frigade! I'm on the team at Vanta that is revamping our user onboarding flows and really wish y'all had launched a couple months ago! Building out the platform to support these experiences internally is no small feat and can blow up in scope quickly. Kudos!
Eric was kind enough to take the time to send us candid and actionable feedback as he went through Vanta's onboarding which definitely helped us smooth out a couple wrinkles. Thanks so much for that.

Recent father of twins here. To reiterate points 3-5: if it is within your means, I cannot highly recommend a night doula/nanny enough. We have a night doula who comes five nights a week (work nights, Sunday - Thursday) for the first three months (currently in week 7). After fending for ourselves every Friday and Saturday, I can't imagine how drained I would constantly be without one.

I love pairing bitters with my sodastream! A few of my favorite recipes are: 1) Grapefruit & Cherry, 2) Cardamom, and 3) Orange & Cranberry. Clearly it's all to taste, but a 3-4 dashes of each bitter is a good starting point for a ~16oz glass of seltzer.
Fee Brothers sells a 12 piece variety pack which is a great way to experiment. After that you have quite a rabbit hole of bitters brands and flavors to explore!

I was also very surprised by this. I'm having a hard time accepting that I'd have to manually concat my columns to create sort keys and keep track of the corresponding queries for them, e.g. "BEGINS WITH..."? Granted, I only watched the video so maybe I'm missing something and that was just to simplify the presentation.

Funny, I've been unable to get credit for any of my stays Marriott hotels in the last year. I rarely stay in Marriott/Starwood, so I assumed that my loyalty account had just expired or otherwise gotten in to a bad state even though I could still log in to the account online. I don't stay in hotels enough to get to higher rewards tiers so I just wrote it off. This likely explains all my failed attempts to accrue nights...

(October 2018)"

Lots of YC companies | Software engineers of all kinds | Many places, though mostly in the US | Mostly on-site, but some remote | Full-time and intern
Earlier this year, a team of us at Y Combinator started a "common app", so that people could apply to work all Y Combinator companies at once. It seemed silly to us that even though so many companies are struggling to hire people, it still requires O(n) effort to apply to n companies.
So, we built https://workatastartup.com. It's a simple way to apply to all YC companies at the same time. Right now it's only for software engineers & data scientists for now (we hope to open it more broadly later). If a company is interested, you'll get an email from them. There is also a directory where you can browse the jobs of some of the companies that are actively hiring through the site and apply directly (not all companies have finished their director profile yet).
It seems to be working pretty well so far - many of the people who posted a profile have gotten more than a dozen company founders reaching out to them, and people have gotten jobs through it. You're most likely to have good results if you're looking for a full-time role in the US since that's where most YC companies are based.
We recently hosted an in-person career fair where the founders of ~40 YC companies from a variety of fields and of various sizes gave short presentations and then mingled with attendees. [0, 1]
We'd love if you filled out a profile and let us know what you think (workatastartup@ycombinator.com) : https://www.workatastartup.com
[0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17367707

Thanks for the link! I just played around with the React and Vue.js implementations. With the Vue.js implementation, there is a perceptible lag (maybe ~300ms) between pressing Enter and the new item appearing in the list. With the React version, the same action is essentially instantaneous. Curious if anyone else is experiencing the same and/or knows what might be the cause.

I'm not crikli, but we have similar tastes! Talisker is my go to dram.
Try Bruichladdich Islay Barley. It's heavy on the saltwater characteristic that Talisker and other Islays have but is overall a bit lighter in both color and taste. I don't recall which vintage I had, which supposedly makes a notable difference for this whisky.
Kilchoman is another Islay that I enjoy a lot.
If you want to delve further into the world of peat, checkout Ardbeg and Laphroaig 10. Laphroaig has other nice varieties like Quartercask and PX that aren't as peat-centric. Ardbeg also has a wide variety of offerings to explore.
Of course I would recommend trying before going in for a bottle on all of these since everyone has their own tastes!
