I have 2 DGX Sparks, 256 GB unified RAM, so not a cheap set of hardware. Luckily I bought them before the recent price increase.
However even with a high tier gaming machine you can run one of the Qwen models and it will be good at coding... like having an intern with boundless energy that will sometimes make mistakes but in general save you a lot of time. And for automating tasks involving scanning documents or creating summaries it will be brilliant.

By all reports they are not good and have quite a few bugs. But the thing about open source is that, if maintained, it almost always improves. And with the bar for maintenance so low due to AI, we are entering a very interesting time for software.
And by interesting I mean scary, if you sell software.

I am running GLM 5.3 Flash locally at home for coding and from my point of view it is indistinguishable from the frontier models of 6 months ago. It can handle almost every task I throw at it.

I won't say Pi looks particularly impressive, but for example OpenCode looks beautiful to me and I prefer it to any graphical interface. The screenshots of your tool are nice but they feel like too much. With a good TUI like OpenCode and even Pi (which is decent) I fell like the code is front and foremost.

These are what I miss most about my years living in Japan. I made them for my kids a few weeks ago and they adored them. You can buy plastic-lined seaweed sheets to fold the rice into, so opening them is almost the same experience as onigiri from a Japanese conbini. For a filling, I just mixed together some tuna, salt, and mayo.

In my case I'm working with very large uncompressed video. Files that are 1 hour and 300+ GB in size. I tried using Kdenlive but it choked.
I'm not saying the CLI is easy to learn, but once you do learn it, you have a lot of power at your fingertips.

ffmpeg is such a joy to use, once you make it over the very steep learning curve.
I'm making some youtube videos where I play through Demon's Souls flipping a coin to decide to equip items or not, and I wanted to have an onscreen coin flip animation and sound effect. With some effort, I created a transparent set of frames for the animation. Then with ffmpeg's filter_complex I was able to add the image sequence as a video stream, overlay it over the original video, and add a sound effect. That's on top of the existing subtitles, audio channel merging, and video resizing/compression. All in a single (long!) ffmpeg cli command.
ffmpeg is one of the true wonders of FOSS.
