If it's frontier, as much as they want to make you think you need the app, if you lookup the trip manually on the site (using your confirmation code), you can download it from the web

You've misunderstood the essay. A central point is to not think about AI risk in terms of matrix/sci-fi scenarios, but in terms of how it might/is likely to function in our societies.

So if you discount the sci-fi scenarios (which is a separate argument), the argument that "we need to be the first to develop AGI" doesn't hold water. If, say, China gets there first, so what? It will affect their society however it'll affect it (likely entrenching authoritarianism if i had to guess). But this has no bearing on us (speaking as an american)

Can anyone else not stand quanta magazine? Everything posted here from there is the most woo-based, mis-represented, science mumbo jumbo. I didnt read the article cause this seems like a prime example of that so someone can correct me if I’m wrong

As others have said, my comp sci degree also had a required ethics course. But it’s also pretty silly to think that a single ethics course where people don’t pay attention is going to change the hearts and minds of students. No amount of discussion about therac is going to make someone question if they should really be working for palantir or raytheon

I really dislike this comment as it assumes that everything is a competition and needs to make money.

If you just do things for your own enjoyment, then it’s obviously better to do it semi-publicly so that you can connect with other like-minded people or simply give online passers-by something neat to look at.

Plus, if you’re motivated by the activity and not the outcome, you don’t have to worry about competitors at all because you have no competitors.
