Mosquito-heavy regions of northern Canada are actually warmer than Iceland in summer. Iceland averages 10-15°C (50-59°F) in July, but Canada’s boreal forest regions where mosquitoes thrive regularly see temperatures of 20-25°C (68-77°F) in the summer.

People have not been making vessels with 237ft masts for thousands of years. That boat literally had one of the tallest mast ever to exist on a boat. You combine the “extreme” nature of this boat with an extreme weather event and you get an extremely outlier outcome

Maybe it's getting into semantics but clarity of thought does not necessarily mean accurate understanding of reality (which is usually messy and complex), so moronic people could ironically have more "clarity of thought" than non-moronic people because they tend to have simple beliefs (these X people are good, but those Y people are bad).
