What shocked me when I saw Elite for the first time, is the huge number of star systems with their own names, population size and descriptions. I knew there was no way such volume of data in the tiny executable file.

I remember Turbo Pascal 3.0, the one that generated COM files for MS-DOS (like EXE files, but about 2KB smaller).
I loved that Turbo.com and COM files 30 years ago!
later I started to use Turbo Pascal 5.5 with OO support and a good IDE.

There are IP cameras with a microSD card slot. A memory card allows you to store the archive directly on the camera itself or duplicate the recording if a failure occurs in the local network. Simultaneously, many Video Management Systems , in the event of a loss of connection, can copy the missing archive from the camera memory card after restoring the network connection.

60 days is another very popular archive depth.
In some countries, for some types of buildings, the archive depth can be regulated by law. These can be buildings with a requirement for anti-terrorist measures, for instance, including sports facilities, facilities with a mass presence of people, and railway striations / airports.

We created a free web based calculator to estimate video archive storage space for your video surveillance system or simply for 1 camera you installed.
The calculator also estimates required network bandwidth for IP cameras.
It is a web app (Javascript+React) that runs in a browser or on a tablet or a smartphone.
Presently, the most common compression codecs are H.264 and H.265 . Their advantage is a high level of video compression, which saves space in the video archive. Motion JPEG compression is also supported.
And here is a manual for the calculator https://www.jvsg.com/cctv-storage-calculator/
Today we launched the CCTV Storage Calculator on ProductHunt:

We created Security Camera Lens Calculator with 3D graphics(WebGL) and a built-in camera database.
https://www.jvsg.com/calculators/cctv-lens-calculator/
It is a web app (Javascript+React) that runs in a browswer or on a tablet or a smartphone.
It took our team more than 1 year to complete the calculator.
Calculator functions:
- calculate pixel density (PPM/PPF)
- clearly see dead zones in 3D
- check DORI zones (detection, observation, recognition, identification) based on pixel density calculations and IEC and EN 62676 standard.
- calculate lens focal length
- load a floor map to see camera coverage on your plan
- over 9,000 video surveillance camera models embedded in the CCTV Lens Calculator.
- 12 languages supported.
Today we launched our Security Camera Lens Calculator also on ProductHunt.
We would love to get some feedback. Particularly from people using it to solve real world problems.

Thank you for your feedback and advice!
Wow, it is great to meet a person here who knows about our main desktop software IP Video System Design Tool.
To import a floor plan in the lens calculator the user can click on a small house button in the bottom of the screen. Yes the button is not in the toolbar.
This video shows how to import a background image 1:40
