I would love for this to be true, but who is the Farmingdale Observer to make these claims? A quick search suggests it's a small town American newspaper.

No sources cited in the text, a quote from an "activist". It's not much to go on.

Probably to stop the personality. Coups are often driven by "soldiers loyal to...". Having a civilian in the role would pre-empt that.

OTOH a waiver undoes all of that. It shows how much of democracy depends on people following conventions and traditions.

I understand your point, but having an engineering degree is not just the possession of a certificate. It's a piece of paper that testifies that the holder has the skill and knowledge, and has passed exams designed by experts in the field.

The response given to Heaviside does suggest that snobbery was a more likely reason for refusing his membership, but that's just my impression.

The market doesn't protect all those kids who were maimed or died trying out your regulation-free skateboard.

A basic level of safety might mean that your skateboards sell faster, now that parents don't have to risk the health of their offspring.

What is the purpose of culture? It's a way of life. Arguably no culture has purpose, so do we force people to live in a different way?

Cultures and languages die out because they're slowly (or revolutionarily quickly!) replaced by another. It's not like there are people out there speaking no language because their mother tongue has died out.

And who gets to decide that a language has no purpose?

I don't like the way this argument goes.

I think the point is to remove the adversarial aspect and therefore see how they react when not under pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if OP does warn their candidates about it.

OP, you can search for "site:getexample.com" which will list you any pages that have been indexed for that domain. They might have just redirected the homepage. Worth a shot.

The Big Short is an excellent book about failures. Really shows how, despite huge institutions and government regulation, human hype and bluster still was the main culprit.

I've seen enough of American politics to consider that copying a better system and lying your ass off that it's American made would work (tbh this would work for most modern democracies).
