I would require IoT devices to pass a rigorous certification process, like we do for RF devices.

I wonder which Adobe apps do they mean. From the screenshots/videos it looks like it has zero overlap with the functionality of Photoshop or Illustrator. This is just a slop generator.

Reminds me how rich people in historic areas of London took on the habit of extending their properties downwards, keeping the above-ground parts intact due to conservation laws.

Then everyone acted surprised when entire streets started sinking, or whole buildings collapsed into the ground: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/nov/03/london-stree...

You should consider patenting this very much novel idea, my friend!

No worries, your workstation is more than enough to run accurate quantum simulations!

Yeah, but remember that those red supergiants' outer envelope is extremely sparse. The density is compared to the very upper layers of Earth's atmosphere - basically vacuum. Around 90% of a supergiants' radius is taken up by that ultra-thin gas envelope.

Well, it's not doing hard reasoning like Lean or Prolog would do, but it does an approximation of that, as it was trained to reproduce linguistic patterns that encode reasoning.

Yes, but it's not like this is some hidden legacy stuff, that you're not supposed to encounter. This is part of the public macOS API: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/nstext

Every AppKit and Foundation type uses the NS prefix, and will keep doing so for any foreseeable future. New NS types are added to these frameworks each macOS release.

NeXTSTEP.

Objective-C doesn't have namespaces (like C), so people use two-letter prefixes on their types to prevent name clashes. The NS prefix is used by Apple's Foundation and AppKit frameworks, that originated from NeXTSTEP, hence NS.

New comment by meindnoch in "We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians"

meindnoch — Sun, 27 Sep 2026 15:02:25 +0000

Ok, but what if the AI figures out a new thermodynamics? A completely new thermodynamics, that's vastly more powerful than human thermodynamics, but of course humans won't be able to comprehend it, because it's so much more powerful, that you need the superintelligence to handle it. With a thermodynamics like that, anything could be possible, and remember: what we have now is the worst it will ever be.

Perceived loudness can be quantified with a psychoacoustic model, and louder songs can be played at reduced volume. That's how ReplayGain works.

Yeah, maybe AI will figure out that thermodynamics is actually not real!
