To those who actually are actually attempting to complete the course ie doing all the assignments in addition to watching lectures:
In your estimation :
How much time does one realistically need every week to successfully finish the course?

Some people laugh at the 800W output.
However, in Indonesia, roughly half of the 300 million people live in homes with an electricity capacity of 900W or less.
Wish these kind of panels were available at that price here. We have pretty much 12 hours of sunlight every single day but household solar panel is discouraged by the state owned utilities.

Java still so popular after all this time.
I've been re-learning java using the excellent University of Helsinki's MOOC course.
Was thinking of learning some spring boot and create a small project or two to reinforce what I've learned. However it feels like tutorials for spring boot is of so much lower quality compared to newer language/frameworks like JS/React/Python. Often times it's just a talking head over a powerpoint presentation talking for 30 minutes.
Could people recommend me a good tutorial for spring boot (or anything java that is being used in enterprises)?

The"too ugly"has been my reaction as well.
That said, I can't even elaborate as to why I feel that way.
I'm totally fine with Material design, Fluent design or Apple's HIG, kde or gnome default looks. But this is just... not for me.
I wonder if a ui/ux expert could put into words why so many others feel the same.

As some other commenters have pointed out:
It is lamentable that the focus is almost always on the atomic bombing itself instead of why it came to that point at all.
Many Asian countries feel scant sympathy toward Japan. From Indonesia to Malaysia to the Philipipines or even worse and for much longer, in Korea and China. In each of these countries the Japanese perpetrated massacre, forced labour, gang rape and forced prostitution in the millions. Even European women who were stranded in their former colonies were not spared. In fact their diaries are the foremost historical sources.
Their brutality is such that the hatred towards colonialist European nations were ameliorated and pretty much forgotten these days. It's sickening to me that outside East and Southeast Asia itself, most of the world only remember Nagasaki and Hiroshima when it comes to casualties in the Pacific theatre of WW2.
This sympathy felt even more misplaced considering even to this very day, unlike Germany, Japanese historiograpy deliberately downplays Japan brutality during occupation or that there was any aggression on their part at all. Most Japanese college mates in the US that I've talked to were not even aware that Japan occupied my country for years resulting in millions of casualties.

>Agreed, yet the median Chinese person remains poor by global standards (median household income is 33k yuan/yr as Stats CN has announced).
Surely the likes of COVID as well as the housing crisis had at least 10x more impact than the US' Huawei ban. Housing sector crisis alone affected an estimated 500k people losing their job and between 1-2 trillion USD losses.
It seems to me if Huawei ban had any deterimental effect on China's GDP per capita then it would be more like a rounding error.

I am often disappointed by the lack of shortcuts and features in VLC compared to Potplayer.
Just some of the few keyboard shortcuts in Potplayer I use regularly:
"<" and ">" to shift the subtitle sync by half a secondd
"shift-<" and "shift->" to adjust the audio sync by half a second
"[" and "]" to set an A-B repeat of that awesome scene or soundtrack
"D" and "F" to move by a single frame forward and backward
there's also shortcut to decrease and increase things like saturation and brightness by 1% or shortcuts for 0.5x, 1x, 2x size.
I have to make do with SMplayer in Linux which is awesome but you have to setup the keyboard shortcuts manually yourself.

Hmm, it was the official Odin project discord server.
I noticed very few submission in the "success stories" channel and people being very doom and gloom about the whole tech apocalypse.
I moved to Southeast Asia. Foothills, small-ish city (around 100k inhabitant) but rather popular with the western crowd since it is less than an hour away from major city but very cheap and has cool weather all year around.
Anyways, Javascript eh?
So between Native Android development and Frontend, you'd recommend Frontend?
Guess it's back to Odin project then.

To make it short, I live in a developing nation. My start-up had a very promising beginning but covid killed it and the changing business landscape means it never picks up traction again.
I have moved to a very low COL place in order to save money and have been thinking about getting a remote IT job.
- I've lived in Germany and the US so I speak both languages fluently.
- I've studied CS in the US but it was over a decade ago and have never used it in my day job (healthcare and education-related startup) so I might as well be uneducated in the field.
- Back in the middle of the year I started learning frontend using the Odin project but stopped after about a month (around intermediate Javascript chapter) since so many people in the discord mention how impossible it was for them to get an interview, let alone get a job.
- I sometimes program small android apps for fun (python, kotlin, flutter).
I'd like to get my foot in the door even if it is entry level and low paid. 500 bucks a month would be more than enough to cover my very modest needs as I still have some savings.
If you were in my position how would you go about getting a remote job in IT?
What skills / languages / frameworks would be feasible to be learned in 3-6 months and get an entry job for ?
