Since schools in my area started yesterday, I'll add that parents do rely on communications regarding weather, early dismissals, transportation, day care, after school activities, etc.

This is the key in my opinion, and the most difficult to discuss with others without them getting defensive. You have to look at every dollar you spend. For me, debt and inflation have the potential turn my dreams to nightmares.

I “retired” at 55 when I was laid off. The biggest reason I didn't find another job is that my spouse was working at a job that she loved. For the previous decades my career and our two children were our priority by necessity, but now she was able to concentrate on herself. I'm 70 now and my wife worked until the day she died last year.

At my location I can get an iced tea with free refills. Then I fill out the survey listed on the paper receipt and use that to get a buy one sandwich get one free deal.

Consumer behavior is absolutely the problem, but it's not just greed, it's also factors like blind brand or retailer loyalty. I have friends that own pick up trucks, tools, sporting goods and clothing that express a personal brand but barely get used.

I own my home. If I let a friend stay with me for unstated terms(friendship, charity, money, sex, whatever) then I no longer should be counted as owning my home?

We bought our house in 1982 with a 15.5% mortgage rate, refinanced to 11.25 in 1985, then 8.5 in 1987.

I worked in a PCB shop in the Washington DC area making prototypes and small quantities for 25 years. We closed in 1998.

Doesn't a high deductible policy have lower monthly premium? Couldn't you have paid more for a policy with a lower deductible? The author chose the lower premiums and self insured (bet) they would not need to use it enough to meet the high deductible.

I called 911 last year when my wife was unresponsive in Maryland. At least 10 vehicles arrived in under 10 minutes. EMTs worked to revive her for 30 minutes doing what they described as the same care she would have received at the emergency room.

She was transported to the hospital because she had a slight heart beat. Had she been declared dead at home, police and other staff would have helped process the death report and application for death certificate. I did not receive a bill or provide insurance information.

When I was 17 I took a summer job at a printed circuit board shop that was all in one 1500 sq ft room. Twenty five years later we had 11 bays each 1500 sq ft filled with smaller rooms. I tore down all of the rooms that I helped build using a forklift and a sledge hammer, and was the last employee to walk out when we closed.

I think that there are times as a leader\supervisor\co-worker\parent\coach where you might argue despite knowing you won't change the outcome simply to show that you are willing to fight for those you represent.

I helped manage 1500 desktops and thousands of VMs over twelve years in a call center and I preached rebooting at the end of the day/shift. There is no doubt that this reduced ticket volume compared to other sites. This included individual and shared desktops.

Agreed, being wrong does not always involve lying. The article title is "How to lie about radiation" and the HN title is "The Radiation Exposure Lie", but the word "lie" does not appear in the article except the title.

I honestly just don't know what your are trying to say and what it has to do with boomers. Are you just talking about physical media copying of books, CDs, DVDs, etc.?
