I think it's a valid criticism.
Even with a lot of stuff built in, it's not very accessible and it's a chore to setup some things that could be just a checkbox or something.

I work on a retailer that partnered with Samsung to implement a feature that would disable devices if the customers didn't pay their installments in time.
I was surprised with that kind of control from Samsung. In the end it feels that device is not really yours.
I wonder if other brands do something like that.

That's sad.
I started using the mobile site after Reddit bought Alien Blue, and I saw how the user experience gradually deteriorated to push their mobile app.
I occasionally used Apollo as an alternative, and I can understand the sentiment of the users. As a reluctant iOS user, Apollo was one of the things that kept me on the platform.
Seeing the direction thar Reddit has been taking, I hope a new platform comes to take its place with the focus on discussions/community.

Not the GP, but in my experience Kagi replaced Google well. I used Duck for quite some time, and I found Kagi to be noticeable better.

I had a similar issue where the support was useless (said I triggered some flag and nothing could be done). My conclusion was to avoid using the service.

This is something I've been wishing for a while - some kind of initiative to help make a small Android device available. So I'm happy to see this, especially when it's backed by someone with influence in the industry.
The author's motivations don't see that strong, though. I mean, if Apple improved the notification system and the file management, would this project exist? Or is it that unlikely to happen in a few years?
Anyway, I really hope the project works. I really do. And I'm willing to contribute the way I can.
I've been trying to make the switch to Android for years, but couldn't find a decent device, despite few attempts over the years.

The article says it was announced in November. This device has been available for a while, you can find user reviews already.

Instead of crates, there are now blueprints. And instead of keys, there's credit to unlock the item of the blueprint. And instead of item drops, there are blueprints. There are still lootboxes, but these can be obtained only in events or challenges.

While I agree Rocket League is a good example of a free to play with cosmetics, I think it got worse with the blueprint system. Now you're limited to one item per week (from the blue lootbox). And if you get the blueprint of item you want, you can't pay only for that item, you need to buy a package of credits, that may be more than you actually need.
