Interesting. If you click on one of the blue circles representing a data center, it shows latencies to the other data centers. This took me a second to figure out — maybe consider adding a note along the lines of “click to select a data center” on the site?

I agree that enabling any form of remote access controlled by a third party increases attack surface, but I also feel like Tailscale has earned more of my trust than other vendors with the quality of their past security responses.

It might be that Discord is remembering user information in iCloud in a way that persists following reinstall, similar to how some games save progress. Clearing the password entry would thus be insufficient.

This article [1] notes that "The incident, ...came the same day 25 people were injured, six seriously, aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu during severe turbulence in the vicinity of Maui."

A local source [2] comments on the weather that day: "On the day this happened, we recall well that the Hawaiian Islands were in the midst of an exceptionally strong wind and rainstorm that was, even for Hawaii, highly unusual."

Correlation, not causation, but a speculative explanation nonetheless?

This makes me imagine a space station like data center in orbit that acts like a public cloud on earth, communicating directly with satellites and renting out processing time. I'm not sure how well economies of scale work when you have to pay for every kg you send up there, but it would be an interesting business model.

The author has devised a logical argument based off drawing equivalences between similar sounding words ("forelegs" vs "four legs"). The absurdity of the conclusion that a horse has infinite legs and the novelty of the invalid leaps in reasoning makes the story humorous.

I just stumbled upon this great story [1] and was surprised it had not been posted here before.

"How Grandmother Triode Stole Binary from the Sun" is a newer bit of folk/computer lore, by Jack Manganese. He credits two Cherokee stories, "Grandmother Spider Steals the Sun" and "The First Fire" as inspiration [2].

May Grandmother Triode and Slide Rule Demon bring a smile to you all.
