It's called foreplay. Jk.
I've seen a glass shower where the glass turned to smoked opaque glass with the push of a button. Maybe this shower had something similar?
But this is no excuse, still completely awkward and horrible design.

If you want to make a kids app... Forcing the child to do a number of math problems to continue using the tablet would be an amazing app that I would definitely pay for.
My daughter is a second grader. If every 5 minutes of tablet use 'cost' her 5 correct arithmetic answers she would be working at space x right now.

My current 'favorite idea I probably won't build' is an sms chat bot that does exactly this for guys in their 30s & 40s. The hard part is actually organizing the group of friends to pick a weekend and location. So a bot that can help with all of that first, is really compelling for me.
OP, let me know if you want to do a user group trying to help us organize a trip.

Not a great joke. Instapaper was really the first one that was read it later. I thought they just it down, but I just switched to Android and Instapaper is (maybe was) only iPhone.
Del.icio.us was just bookmarks, no reader for the phone.

I built a side project during COVID and after. I started recording videos explaining everything that's happening in the world for my kids to watch in 20 years.
Then I wanted to capture my parents life story. I thought it might be a good little project and others might find it valuable. So I built viography.co
The problem is that I'm not really promoting it and not getting customers. So I'm spending a few hundred dollars a month to record videos, save them for later and of course fix bugs that I find.

I think a penny is about the right price. What are the other options and how are those working?
50 percent of email is spam and Gmail has had to create multiple invoices to segment the emails that are probably not going to be read.
Snail mail is probably $1 to send something that will likely be thrown out.
Phone calls - we're rounding the corner after the days of auto insurance calls. But the behavior of only answering known callers might be here to stay.
Sms is the best channel at enforcing opt-in and if it's not worth $0.01 to reach me with the message, sms probably isn't the right channel

I think it's a little overstated to call tcr a cartel. Yes, it's a process, but it's gotten a lot better over the last 18 months.
People have been complaining about spam text for a long time. There aren't too many folks out there clamouring for anyone to be able to send them an SMS via email gateway.
For the past decade I've been shocked that email to sms was still allowed. sure, there are some legitimate organizations that have been using this route to avoid cost. But the whole idea is that if it's not worth 1 penny to send this message, then sms probably isn't the right channel.

I think things could also 'creep' in the other direction where the group communication becomes overwhelming. The article mentions that someone actually sold an item through the WhatsApp group. My worry would be that the WhatsApp group becomes and meetings turn into Craigslist, where it's people looking for dogsitters and Buy Nothing posts.
The point, if I have one, is that editing and saying no, especially with the technology, will help the group stay together. In person, obviously, neighbors can talk about whatever they like.
In my opinion a broadcast/newsletter would be the better fit for group communication.

I'm sure it's on your list, but I think it would be helpful if I could click into the timeline in order to add an event/period of my life. I think there could be a really cool interface expanding years and drilling into certain time periods.
Also, as I get older I remember events, but I'm not sure when they happened. I remember being in a certain city on St. Patty's Day, but can't remember what year that might have been.
I got a little obsessed with this idea of journaling my life during the pandemic. I would record videos for my kids to watch in 20+ years. I figure they'll get a kick out of seeing their dad young and talking about current events. I built a site and made my parents record stories about their life - viography.co (try it free functionality is currently being rebuilt and not working. If you want a code dm me).
For the life in weeks, I think the more information that can be saved makes it more valuable. Personally I'm playing around with the idea of turning my site into a weekly video journal. It seems like everyone is putting a ton of content online, it's mostly ephemeral and clickbait-y and as we all get older we'll wish we made more substantial recordings of ourselves and our situations.

Aren't they doing a 12 days of Christmas thing where they release new features for 12 days? This would fit into that idea.
I was thinking earlier today that an agent listening to my calls would be helpful. I was on the phone with a financial institution that will require some followup. Being able to sync in an agent to transcribe and remind me would be valuable.
I understand this isn't that.

You can feel ok about replying STOP to text messages from shortcodes. It's not impossible, but it would be an extremely bad process for an organization to have their OTP and their marketing messages (let alone spammy stuff) on the same short code.
There are short codes that are dedicated to OTP. Replying STOP to this number should not affect the ability for you to receive OTP for a different company login.

There are cheaper and less risky ways to understand if a number is valid. STOP will legitimately unsubscribe the recipient from messages from this phone number.

Text messages don't have an "open" action. Replying STOP will unsubscribe the recipient from future SMS from this number. I have never seen an organization use an unsubscribe as a positive action in their funnel. There are less expensive and less risky ways to confirm that a phone number is valid for sure.
