Ask HN: What's the minimal WordPress security hardening you'd trust?

I’m trying to understand what actually matters in WordPress security beyond checkbox features.

Constraints: shared hosting, non-technical site owners, must not break plugins/themes, low overhead.

If you had to pick the top 5 controls in a WP security plugin (or server-side), what would you choose and why?

Bonus: what features are mostly noise (false positives, bloat, fear-UX), and what’s surprisingly effective?

How I reduced my WordPress site spam comments

On my WordPress site, I had Wordfence installed, along with Cloudflare. Still, every day I used to get at least 10-15 spam messages every day!!

Then installed the Ultimate Security plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-security) changed my login URL, installed Turnstile on my WordPress comment forms. Wow!

0 spams for the last 4 days!!!

Tested it.

One thing I found interesting is that you can export the site and use it locally. In your own WordPress installation.

Hi, tried the product. You can add a feature like notepad.pw where they generate a unique slug for each user? They even let the use choose their slug if it's available.

Hi, I am a semi-technical WordPress user. I have developed a site locally using LocalWP. Now I want to push my site to my shared hosting. What is the simplest way to do this?

After searching, I found that you upload the database and wp-content folder to your hosting. And then change the URLs in your WordPress database to your current site. That should do the trick.

Do I have to do it manually find and change it?

Also another question I have is that, is there any way I can sync my live site and local site with any services or WordPress plugin?
