You’re right, it’s a valid data point. But the U.K. government report is also a data point, and the Firefox report is a data point, and they suggest that it is, indeed, significantly better than current generation models. Maybe curl is significantly better hardened than most projects?

In any event, it barely matters. As Anthropic acknowledges, next level models are comings, theirs is only one of them. Current generation models are already good at things like tracing data flow through complex systems and there’s no reason to think that capability has topped out. So within a year it seems very likely we’ll have more than one commercially available model able to find vulnerabilities cheaply.

On the other hand, it seems that they’ve made much less progress on getting it to design solutions to these issues.

Yeah, it’s worth reminding people every so often that the guys who run SQLite are weirdos. Even if it is, hands down, the best product in its class.

And yes, it’s basically a paraphrase of the Rule of St Benedict.

IME: less than you’d think. I know one major C# project that’s only half completed its migration and that huge (both in terms of what’s been achieved and what still needs doing). There’s another that keeps it for the front end because it runs on >10,000 client machines. All the others, big or small, have migrated with small carve-outs for stuff .NET Core doesn’t and probably never will support.

I mean, we can read the Firefox article to get some hard data on this: * Yes, they were already finding stuff with Opus 4.6 * However, their breakdown was 1/3 traditional methods, 1/3 Mythos and 1/3 every other AI model.

To put it a different way, we now have roughly three times as many eyes rendering our bugs shallow. Or, to use the framing of the article, AI doubled the number, Mythos added another 50% on top.

This article is purely qualitative, but the quantative stuff matters.

There’s a guy from my parent’s generation who smoked. A lot. Extremely decent guy, one of the reasons I made it through my own childhood in one piece. He’s been clean for ten years. He tells me he can barely remember a 20 year stretch of his life.

Great guy, but not an advert for cannabis use.

This is like saying a +5 sword is useless because you still miss on a one. We’ve got to think about expected outcomes. Because if ahe’s merging five solid PRs to your three, loudly complaining about the one she saw was rubbish and threw away.
