> The truth is before this Sam was basically running circles around the board and doing whatever he wanted on the profit side- that's what was pissing them off so much in the first place. He was even trying to depose board members who were openly critical of open AI's practices.
Do you have a source for this?

I’ve found v4 to be much better at following formatting. If I put “reply with code only” in the system message then I don’t get all the explanations.
The system message is completely useless in 3.5 though and you’re better off putting your instructions in the first user message.
I haven’t used v4 in production yet though because it is so slow. I really hope they speed it up.

> 4. From a financial point of view, I’m still paying the employee and the service, so either I need enough services and time savings that I can eliminate a job, or the service has to have positive ROI of its own.
More likely, there's other work that the employee could be doing that will help your company grow

That compound in particular is used to help replace a C-OH bond with a C-CN bond. It may seem like a weird chemical but it's very commonly used in organic synthesis.
> Why wouldn't the same but with a more typical fully-carbon backbone work?
Because a fully carbon backbone would not be as reactive and would not attach/detach from the intermediate as needed

I own a small optometry clinic with my wife and we're reaching the upper limit of what it can provide for us with the current business model. All of our income comes from eye exams (we don't sell glasses or other products) and our doctors are fully booked so the next logical step is to get more space and hire more doctors. Being a software developer I am trying to find ways to increase revenue that isn't limited by the number of we exams a person can perform in a day. The city is saturated with optometrists so at some point we'll be fighting to get more patients.
Other ways to grow could be:
* sell glasses - don't want to but probably enevitable
* increase prices - done recently and currently pretty high compared to other clinics
* service add-ons - extras tests and whatnot that can be charged on top of the base exam fee. Don't like this because we don't want to "sell" services. If it's needed it should be a part of the regular exam. We have an all inclusive price which I think is a good differentiator.
* increase efficiencies to allow more eye exams in a day
* package some in-house software to be sold to other clinics - not much to offer at this point
* help other clinics digitize their processes or improve security of their systems
I am hoping I can seek the wisdom of HN for novel ideas of how to grow, especially if it doesn't include getting paid dollars for hours

Zenith Solar is certainly more advanced. Thanks for pointing it out.
The difference between the two projects though is open source vs proprietary. Zenith looks very impressive but Solar Fire is meant to put solar power cheaply and easily into anyone's hands. They are both worth following IMO
