I've been using migadu for a year-ish, its a nice website. For only 20$ a year I don't think I've ever noticed down time and almost never received spam.
I'm looking forward to them deploying 'Alps' their new UI I've been using it on my self-hosted mail and its pretty sweet.

Element isnt paid?
It has paid hosted options if you want your own synapse server, but the free version has always been there and if you're using discord why care that you dont have your own domain for your matrix community

I really liked this story. Im much too young to have been around for it, but I feel like this era of computing must have been kind of magical where there was a lot of access and no walled garden nearly to the scale of a google or apple where the obfuscation just requires a flipped bit.

This is very cool, In my head, writing a game engine seems like one of the real 'final frontier' projects -- an os, a compiler/language, a game engine all feel like similar levels of project insane complexity with limitless scope.
Every time I've attempted even the basics of graphics programming I very much get scared off when it doesnt click quickly (if anyone has tips on how to get into it, it would surely be appreciated :))

I wish there was anything comparably easy to use and of the same quality or even in the vicinity in foss communication platforms.
Mumble isnt easy to use but has great voice and terrible text, matrix and irc are both -- for most non techy people -- hard to use and esentially text only, jitsi is video conferencing, xmpp is mainly not about voice and suffers the same issues as matrix.
I really hate the state of things as I would love to contribute and join some oss communities but they only exist on matrix and I hate using it. Its one of those things i wish i had the know how to start building my self, but webrtc alone seems impenetrable for mumble/discord style audio.

I sincerely hope they don't, but also i don't think they will. I've never come across music i cant get outside of spotify, i don't see why it would happen with podcasts.
I dont listen to a huge number but all the podcasts i listen to are available outside of it on one of the seemingly millions of podcast hosting services.
Patreon is really cool in this area as i can support podcasts i like and patreon provide a rss feed you can use which is quite delightful.

> We are about to rebuild our Android app in Flutter from scratch now…
Why not use Java/Kotlin if its just on android? Flutter has its advantages sure, but from my experience developing with flutter is the apps end up a bit slower than native, and often you end up interacting with the Java ecosystem on android anyway so the experience doesn't end up being that much better.
