We don't need DRM to enforce reselling. Equipment and methods to reproduce physical media are widespread today and there isn't a way to prevent copying and then reselling. Other than the marginal cost of CDs, Vinyl, cassettes, etc.

Purely digital just drops that cost from a few cents to nothing. DRM free music stores have existed for over a decade and already de-facto operate in this manner.

There isn't a practical reason to require DRM in order to have ownership over a digital copy of a song.

I really like the concept, but I'm not happy with the implementation.

From what I can see, it makes a call and receives an access token. This token can then be used to make requests to the matrix server like sending or retrieving messages. If this component is used for a matrix client, this makes sense. If the component is used for another service or app, I don't think this is a good idea.

Given the references the author found to apparently reputable ransomware recovery firms, my reading is that the decryptor was built by one of those companies using the key provided by the intruder.

I'm not really considering it for my personal stuff, but since work is a Microsoft shop, I'm really pushing to get on .NET core. We're at a point where most of our Windows bound stuff is going away and we can start to shed a lot of weight if we can port what remains to .NET Core.

You can turn on usb debugging and attach to it from your computer. Then go to about:debugging to inspect, add breakpoints, etc.

Point of fact: it's not the GDPR, per se, that causes companies to hand over personal information to duplicitous individuals. It's those companies poor verification and security practices.

The GDPR does create a new attack surface, in that companies now have a legal obligation to provide information. The article did not say whether or not there is a legal obligation to properly verify the identity of the requestor.

So for me, this is roughly what I want in a phone. But the thing is, I bought a phone over two years ago, with better specs for $100 less. That same phone today is priced at $200-$300.

The way I see it the real value add for this phone is the software, and this whole mainline Linux, FOSS, run whatever you want approach is very attractive to me.

But is it worth $700? Is it worth $700 when my current phone is in great condition and most likely will be usable for several more years?

I feel bad, because I do want to support this kind of thing, I'm just not sure that buying __this__ phone is the right decision for me.
