Except with google it’s becoming impossible to find links from several years ago. Unless I remember exactly the right keywords and maybe the website name...
How is this FOMO? The entire point of bookmarks is “maybe I’ll come back later to this”. Bookmarks let you save content that you come across that may not be relevant at this time, but could be useful later. There is no penalty for saving pages because space is virtually unlimited, and we can only collect so many bookmarks anyway. Searching through bookmarks isn’t a difficult task, and it’s way better than relying on google.

Actix was not at all "shit". People just took some issues with a few usages of unsafe and how the author responded to issues/PRs. I've been using actix for about a year now, and was excited for the 0.2.0 updates.
That said, pulling the code entirely and deleting issues was a rather immature response.
As a rust user I just don't know what another good alternative is. Warp, maybe? I'm debating about just writing http stuff in Golang due to its robust standard library instead of picking among several fledgling 3rd party http libraries.

> These are factors with measurable real-world impact on your fellow citizens, and, I would submit, more important than your paranoid secrecy wrt your dietary habits.
1. Why is this one or the other? Can't we have efficient cars that also don't track us?
2. How, in 2020, do people still not understand how serious location data is? In the USA, and likely anywhere that has cars + little public transportation (like rural areas), your car basically displays your life. Where you live, work, eat, meet people, attend events, etc. How long until law enforcement asks for all people who drove near a protest/rally? Or advertisers get that data and start targeting you based on where you drove? Why should a freaking car company (who is 100% guaranteed going to sell your data) have access to your entire location profile? The thought of this alone is frustrating and maddening because of how easily we hand out our data. People have no idea how powerful bulk collection of user data is.

I don't think anyone was arguing that. We obviously have to cover distances that are not practical for walking, so public transportation goes hand in hand with a walkable city.
That is still a tremendous improvement over having to drive everywhere. The quality of life is so much better, it's almost indescribable.

As someone who grew up in the States, I never really understood this either, until I lived in Korea and visited Japan.
There, residential zoning is mixed with business zoning. There is no such thing as a "suburb", because you have apartments nestled right next to grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants. I don't think I ever had to walk more than 2-5 minutes to get to a convenience store. Cars still existed of course, but so many people walked, rode bikes, or took public transit. (It helps that both countries have extremely good public transit systems).
Once I realized how nice life could be, I started hating suburbs. I hate having to drive 10-20+ minutes just to get food or groceries because the only thing around you is a vast sea of houses. I hate that public transit is basically nonexistent, or if it does exist, it's slow and not on time. I hate having to drive, which is both unsafe and prohibits me from studying or getting work done, because I have to pay attention to the road.
Centering around a suburb model is one of the US's greatest structural failures.

It’s not inclusive to force people to stop saying “you guys”, which is a midwestern thing. Different areas have a different words for the plural you, such as “you all” or “y’all” or “all y’all”. I grew up in Chicago and everyone said “you guys”, regardless of the group’s genders. I think it’s absurd the school would go after him for that.
Also, for English, new verbs and nouns are constantly made. Not pronouns. [0]
Also, the cheating thing is ridiculous, full stop. I’d have a hard time dealing with folks like that as well.
[0]: https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-closed-class-words-1689856

Hollywood is a reflection on culture, not the other way around. They just make what people want to see (it's a business, after all).
Anything else is mindless conspiracy theories. There is no secret cabal pushing culture to the masses.
It's so bizarre to observe normal humans and businesses (and how organizations completely fail at any meaningful scale), and then to turn around and assume there is a hyper-intelligent, hyper-powerful secret society running things.
Instead of blaming Satan, now we have boogeymen from conspiracy theories to fulfill his role.

> Easy-to-use vs. powerful is a false dichotomy.
iMovie vs Premiere/Final Cut. Final Cut X vs 7. Garageband vs Pro Tools. Word vs LaTeX. and so on. It's very difficult to design interfaces that are easy enough for average users that don't impede pros/power users.
> hammer
A hammer isn't a good comparison. Something like a multimeter is what I was thinking of, etc. Git solves a significantly more complex problem than either of these, though.
> including the author himself say the interface could at least be made much better
I don't disagree! Git's interface -could- be better. That has nothing to do with my points above with regards to people refusing to read basic literature about the tools they use, expecting them to just magically do everything for them out of the box, "intuitively".
> feeling superior ... you don't want to lose your "edge"
This could not be further from the truth. I simply have no sympathy for people who refuse to read the manual or an intro to using a tool, and then complain about the tool being hard to use. Yeah.. it's hard because you didn't do any reading! Git is actually really easy if you read about the model that it uses. Most people don't need to venture out beyond ~5-6 subcommands, and even then it's easy to learn new subcommands like cherrypick, rebase, etc.
Adobe Photoshop, as another example, has a learning curve, but that tool is indispensable for professionally working on / editing images. (GIMP is also good, but that's not in the scope of this discussion). A lot of beginner issues are basically PEBKAC because they didn't read the manual. Same with Pro Tools, or probably any other software used by industry professionals. They're harder to use but what you can do with them (since they treat you like an adult, instead of holding your hand and limiting you) is incomparable to the output of apps designed for casual users.

Not if it means reducing capabilities of the program in order to add bumper guards.
I can’t think of any software that handles a complex program that doesn’t have a manual, documentation like a manual, or a learning curve. Git is a tool for developers, not casual users who want typical apps.
Again, you wouldn’t make an argument like this for a tool used by a plumber or a mechanic. If a tool succinctly handles a problem, good! But using tools is part of the profession; they have learning curves.
Most issues with git are PEBKAC issues because people refuse to spend 10 minutes of their life reading about a tool they may use for hundreds or thousands of hours. I wouldn’t want to cater to those kinds of people.
