Peace through global interdependence wasn't a bad side effect at all. The analogy only holds so much, but I'd wholly agree that any profound deterioration of skills across the board would create dependencies on AI infra that are on a whole new level.

At the very latest, when "AGI robots" will be commonplace and taking on the most crucial labour on our behalf.

FWIW by this point, many of us are in deep symbiosis.

Useful or not, another Amiga / Unix fan probably had fun and some learnings too.

At the very least, the real-world impact is that tokens have been spent, the outputs open sourced.

It would be nice to hear their voice survive the loops of agentic abstraction of course but I don't know if that is even possible at that higha level.

Maybe it's that, maybe it's "just another issue of alignment"? Potentially serious in aggregate and over time..

I personally don't mind the imo little "neuralese" (is that what we call it now?) here specifically. In any case it's good for you that you can (still?) tell?

Why not applaud the playground time/energy/token budget directed? Especially as a decades long NetBSD (and Amiga:) fan I do appreciate multitudes; maybe here not exactly the case in tone of writing but in relatively cheap, fun experiments / projects during the agentic take-off of 2026. The whole trend reminds me a bit of remix/DJ culture; the "producing DJ"?

"Think of the kids!" OK but the impact of this technology shouldn't be underestimated and one doesn't only have to read up on the extreme ends. From personal experience, have you ever "chatted" with a model outside of technical/work related stuff? Both Anthropic as well as OpenAI models have been overstepping personal (user) boundaries for years now. There are multiple reasons for why Google hasn't capitalized on the transformer much earlier..

I'm neither a proponent of the recent Zuckerberg maneuver to "protect the children!" nor of the EU based zero-knowledge proof track, but the people in those companies need to be kept accountable.

The new Claude availability constraints seem to me then like a (late) hedge against any major litigations on that front..

Mostly mediocre to bad entertainment and distractions anyways.

I'm not a fan of the "binge watch chowder" of the last 15 years and much rather extend my collection of actually worthwhile UHD BluRay movies to watch deliberately every other Sunday night or so.

I agree completely, it was a tragedy that Commodore shipped with that one.

Even though I still have lots of original home / computer hardware including multiple versions of the C64 (working or still to be fixed..) I just ordered the Cyberpunk 2077 ornate "Commodore 77" so as to be able to play with it and potentially port over and adapt BBC basic adjacent basic like MMbasic (or make my own focused attempt at it).

It's a semi open FPGA platform and latest one here is still not MiSTer grade on many fronts but should give enough freedom at least to have my own bespoke ROM replacement come up on init.

The goal would exactly be that of eventually getting rid of the builtin basic for recreational biking of the mind with our young padawan...

I also own a MiSTer and the community's well done BBC core already largely gets us to where I want us to be but the platform chiefly lacks the SID as well as the nature of a dedicated device.

Booting into "C64 BBC basic" is a must; I hope to book some time for this project next year at the very latest.
