Marketing emails are send to existing and new paying customers all the time, it's exceptionally strange that that is the line you decide to use to determine if something is marketing or not.
Once again, regardless how you want to try and spin it, nobody signs up for a 14 day marketing campaign willingly, and subscribing is in no way shape or form an indicator of said acceptance. Most people would bat multiple eyelashes at any service that claims that is a transactional email and some might even be so put off they don't decide to subscribe or, like the author, are so frustrated that they'll likely unsubscribe because of said marketing spam. That right there is already indicative of how helpful and necessary these emails are.
Not sure why this is the hill you're deciding to die on but this ain't it.

It has "Live Updates" in big bold text as one of the first and most prominent lines on the page so... yes? Is that a problem?
Publications have had live-updating articles for things ongoing for years. This seems both entirely reasonable and normal, and I'm not sure what the concern or issue is.

A transactional message is something like "Thank you for signing up" or "Your password was changed" once per transaction. Hence, transactional.
Regardless how much they and you want to spin it, this is a 14 day marketing campaign. A single transaction (ie. subscribing) should not result in 14 emails sent. And certainly not one a day. By that logic I can send you unlimited emails because you bought one thing from me once and somehow consider all of them "transactional".

What promises? The announcement for BastionZero was quite clear as to what would happen:
> The BastionZero team will be focused on integrating their infrastructure access controls directly into Cloudflare One. During the third and fourth quarters of this year, we will be announcing a number of new features to facilitate Zero Trust infrastructure access via Cloudflare One. All functionality delivered this year will be included in the Cloudflare One free tier for organizations with less than 50 users. We believe that everyone should have access to world-class security controls.
Did you expect them to continue running their own service when it was pretty evident their work would be integrated into CF's zero trust suite?

It seems harsh to critique guardrails and take them into account in the scoring when GPT-5.5 seems to have been explicitly whitelisted to remove most of said guardrails. A more fair comparison would be a vanilla GPT account.

Not even the worst reading of their reply would lend to that implication.
It’s pretty obvious that they meant that anyone who depended on their service would/should probably run away kicking and screaming if they were looking for a dependable service that will do what they claim to in the long term.
If they were Apple sanctioned, then at least you’d have some reassurance that the service won’t die randomly one day when Apple has had enough, à la Beeper.
