People are trying. Good writing is difficult to produce. For the average Joe, the most cost-effective writing tutor/aid available is a free AI prompt. So that’s what they are using.

There are real ppl using AI to speak up that were previously silent. Yes, AI is the difference-maker for their engagement. Yes, their efforts are imperfect and have a ‘smell’. That’s not a defect, that’s a perfectly normal and expected condition.

when the cashiers & janitors were replaced with robots, nobody complained about poor ppl displaced, they complained about well-fed ppl inconvenienced.

Ask the person to describe the last three tickets they worked on. Listen to them speak, and ask yourself if it is someone you could work with. At the end of the third description, if the answer isn’t obvious, you were the wrong person to conduct the interview.

That’s it. Seriously. One interview. No computers. Max 30 minutes. If you need more than that you have a decision-making disorder.

I directly benefited from this program. I was a kid in MN in the late 70s, learned BASIC on the Apple ][ in a smalltown K-12 public school. There were no ‘computer experts’ so it was the math/science dept that handled it. There was no curriculum or publicity agenda so we explored and experimented. We had no idea how rare that was.
