I'm running a custom ROM on a Galaxy S8 (so without project treble) and I've been pleasantly surprised!
Even something as niche as the swipe on fingerprint sensor to pull notifications drawer down still works!
Everything from phone calls, camera, fingerprint, all the essentials work pretty much flawlessly.

I this this ought to be an iterative process, such as study principles so that you don't start from absolute scratch, then make a wheel that sucks, study some more and do more resarch yourself, rince and repeat until satisfied.
There is so much nuance that doesn't get captured in all the study you can do about how a certain thing is made.

In my country they enacted this system for student management that is national.
It handles signups, restauration and housing services, grades, everything.
One example is that the grades are entered by professors and mistakes happen all the time, for everyone, due to the insane server load.
There's no one to complain to, because the excuse is always "it's the system, not us"

Upon reading the title at first glance, I thought this was going to be how "effecient" computers nowadays. Such as MacBooks and such, who started this efficient computers thing in the recent times. And they are, but as a result computers are all worse off for it. I mean soldered RAMs and everything is a system on a chip.

I think this sounds reasonable. This is based on an anecdotal where my university page blocked me on Facebook. And for some reason everything is posted there, schedules, announcements, exam schedules, important sign-up procedures...
I rely solely on accessing the page without logging in in incognito mode. Or people screenshot/forwarding relevant links and announcements.
