I dare say that Dahmer is an atypical example. If you are a serial killer and the police catch you, then it's well worth a gamble to try to talk your way out of it. Even if they try to fabricate evidence, it's likely not going to be as bad as what you've actually been doing.

I did see a new estimate on the AMOC collapse the other day and it could be as early as 2040 (probably this article: https://futurism.com/future-society/scientists-alarming-atla...).
I think we've been enjoying a period of slow change as the oceans have been absorbing the extra heat energy over the last few decades, but we're now reaching the point where we're exhausting that heat sink and we're about to see dramatic climate change.

The issue should really be about kinetic energy and the likelihood of collisions.
With cycles (including e-bikes), the rider is exposed and is likely to get hurt during a collision and this provides a feedback loop so that experienced riders are likely to take care and be very attentive. Cars don't have this feedback loop and are also orders of magnitude heavier, so it's really a different situation.
It's bizarre to require a slower speed limit for a much lighter vehicle, when logic dictates that cars should have the much slower speed limit.
> We should congratulate cyclist on becoming fully fledged (oppressed) road users.
As a matter of record, the first modern roads were built specifically for and by cyclists: https://www.cyclinguk.org/cycle/roads-built-cars

I hope that's the case, though I've reduced my instances down. I had the resources split into four VMs, so I just deleted two of them as I only really use one anyway.
> I'm not blaming oracle for reducing the quota, I know they have been very generous on their free tier but It would have been nice if they had atleast sent a email about this
I do blame them as "always free" should mean something and if there's an existential reason to change their offering, then communication should be the very least of their efforts. They should have communicated it, then provided a grace period with a warning of what the charges would be, then finally make the change. Currently, I don't think they've even updated their billing/usage pages.

The lack of warning should make this illegal, but I don't fancy taking on Oracle's fleet of lawyers to take them to court over it. I imagine there will be lots of people getting unexpected charges for their "always free" instances.
I expect there's some weasel words in the contract, but I would expect consumer protection laws (e.g. in Europe) would ultimately favour Oracle's victim/customer.

I don't have an issue with chargebacks if the vendor has made a mistake and doesn't respond in a timely fashion, but issuing a chargeback because you let your kid play around with a card isn't responsible behaviour. (Not that I think it was a kid in this particular case)
There's also the issue that it's usually a breach of the contract to allow someone else (i.e. not named in the contract) to use your card.

Chargeback sounds like trying to defraud AWS. If the parent authorises the child to use their card, then the buck should stop with the parent. AWS has done nothing wrong in allowing an account to be opened with a valid card.

However, GDP may be measuring the opposite of living standards. In the UK, the NHS will be effectively paying cost prices for healthcare (which is generally available free to the public), whereas Mississippi will presumably factor in expensive healthcare as part of the GDP. Higher GDP, but a lower living standard if you have very limited access to healthcare.

You may be confusing the Soviet Union (disbanded in 1991) with Russia. The Soviet Union (USSR) was communist, but Russia existed before and after the Soviet Union. Russia was a monarchy before 1917 and became a semi-presidential republic (under Putin) after the fall of the Soviet Union. I would also describe modern Russia as an oligarchy and certainly seems to be far-right in terms of politics.
