Deeply moved by https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47021980 I set out to make Oat a bit nicer and add a few (important for me) components.
Somewhere along the way I succeeded in making it ... slightly slower and slightly bigger than upstream. Progress!
Curious what you people think. Contributions and your hate welcomed :)

I empathize deeply as I was a few times in a similarly complicated situation. I know, posts like this arent about seeking "feedback" but simply releasing pressure, and thats 100% valid.
That said, one thing I learned from my own experience was to stop pointing fingers (build up badblood and seeking conflicts) and instead focus on the hard lessons about my own mistakes(learning!). I wish you the best in your next chapter. The path to becoming a good manager/colleague is never ending and demanding and its evident you want to be one ... Goodluck!

Server will store encrypted blob and its hash/etag.
Client before upload of data, check for hash/etag of blob he originally fetched. If blob on server has different one, it will download it, decrypt, patch new data on existing one, encrypt and reupload.
Whats the catch?
AES is hardware accelerated on the most devices - so with all the ops it will be significantly faster than any homomorphic enc nowadays.

There have already been a few discussions on HN about this topic:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42627453
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43680597
First world problems, but I'll emphasize it one more time. There are several annoyances with magic link authentication:
- No email access: People might not have access to their email on the current device or at that moment (using a public computer, phone without email configured, etc.)
- Context switching: I deliberately avoid checking email to maintain focus. Being forced to open inbox breaks concentration and exposes us to distractions I was trying to avoid
Technical friction: Logging into email can be slow (especially with 2FA, etc), mail delivery can be delayed or end up in spam, links often open in a different browser/app, breaking the session
Using a different device to check email means you can't continue on your original device.
- Clipboard disruption: Users might have something important copied and don't want to replace it(just to paste your magic link in the right tab)
The ask is simple: Give us at least one "normie" option! Every sane person nowadays uses a password manager anyway. (Yes, if you don't - you should be using one!)
I believe this trend stems from Auth0/Okta/etc/"modern" auth providers pushing their preferred patterns, combined with a "move fast and break things" mentality that prioritizes developer convenience over user experience.
Please - reconsider it.

For now, unfortunately, no - no signed URLs are supported. It wasn't my focus (use case), but if you find a simple/minimalistic way to implement it, I can help you with that to integrate it.
From my helicopter perspective, it adds extra complexity and size, which could maybe be ideal for a separate fork/project?

yes, you are right!
On the other hand S3 uses checksums only to verify expected upload (on the write from client -> server) ... and suprisingly you can do that in paralel after the upload - by checking the MD5 hash of blob to ETag (*with some caveats)
