don't be overwhelmed by these guides - you can also use yubikeys "out of the box"
I use mine as a 2FA on services that support it, and I've never had to do anything but plug it in
remember though, you will need pc smart card support...typically the pcscd daemon must be started and enabled

Our military budget is substantially larger today than it was when we were actively engaged in both Iraq and Afghanistan just a few short years ago
Our military budget will soon pass $1 trillion annually
Our elected representatives now routinely provide the Pentagon with more money than it even requests
Every NYTimes article on Ukraine is riddled with comments suggesting we provide a blank check for weaponry
The Washington Post likes to tell me every day why it is essential the US build more $15 billion aircraft carriers to provoke China
This is just one reason why we have poverty and always will

its okay
so far...is anything really happening?
I enjoyed the episode with Nick Offerman, but it seem self-contained
otherwise, we've got two people driving around CG dystopia wreckage and having encounters...but there isn't much plot or character development
the main characters seem stereotypical...the precocious smartass teen, the grizzled older guy...I'm waiting for something to arrive, hopefully it will

Microsoft and Intel and the PC makers all seem to be in a deadlock
Microsoft can't rethink Windows because they will never corral the PC makers on a reasonable timetable
PC makers are still selling the same laptops as four years ago (modulo minor spec bumps) because Windows is basically the same OS as four years ago (modulo some UI fluff). Intel and AMD are stuck in the middle waiting for the deadlock to break...but the only winner is Apple.

A fair number will leave the industry
This isn't controversial and it happened in the dot-com bubble aftermath
For many, they were never deeply committed to IT anyway and were only following good/easy-to-attain positions
For some, they had bills to pay and couldn't afford to wait things out
The most interesting class of workers in this round are the (former) FAANG cohort of overcompensated middle-performers. These people were gut-punched by their layoffs, and they will be gut-punched again when they see future offers that may be 50% of what they were making before. HN isn't receptive to these types of observations so it will likely just have to sink in over time...the days of coding React for two hours a day and pulling in total comp of $400k are probably gone forever.

the grand IT tech cycle (1995-present) is flattening out
markets are crowded and saturated, most participants are just doing replacement business (for example, Lenovo, Apple, Samsung selling replacements to people who already purchased their products)
it takes fewer people to maintain a business than to build one
there just isn't as much work to do, and what is remaining is quickly being automated and/or commoditized
tl;dr: you may not be needed
