Is it disk jockey? As an IT nerd I am a disk jockey. Radio guys are disc jockeys.

Like as in spinning discs.

Can someone be a disc jockey and not know they are not disk jockeys? Not sure. Or maybe I'm mistaken

Implying people are cheated is a nice way to increase dissatisfaction, if the goal is to produce resentment.

I'm all for unions and collective bargaining but I'm not a fan of manipulated dissatisfaction.

Access to many of the companies I worked for allowed me to support their monopolies just like desktop bundling (MS), pay store fees(AAPL), search advertising (GOOG), and so on. I guess you could call that "more productive"?

Don't these guys all, or mostly all, maintain massive shadow workforces of employees who do all of the work of employees but are called contractors, and so get poor benefits packages and no stock and inflate the earnings of the companies?

Its plausible. This would be impulsive behavior.

Since ADHD pre existed social media it seems likely that this is not a cause.

It might make things worse.

Spending time looking for prevention/treatment rather than correlations might be more useful.

In humans this is often called impulsivity, the preference for smaller sooner outcomes. This is often seen in children and animals and in some adult human behavior.

An impulsive choice is not optimal. You can buy a cheaper pack of gum at Costco in a week or get one for three times the cost right now.
