Jesus christ you are so incredibly arrogant whilst lacking any consideration for a scenario different from what you've experienced yourself.
You've clearly got no idea and just have an axe to grind. I never once implied a chatbot would be a silver bullet that equates to an experienced agent, did i?
There are several ways a chatbot can work with chat and voice channels. Several companies have done it effectively. To suggest a chatbot is completely useless is baseless and completely ignorant.
Have you considered that in industries such as travel, a snap border closure triggers such an immense spike of enquiries for issues that are being fixed through short term hacks because systems are built on stacks on stacks of legacy applications and covid has broken core assumptions the business logic is built off? And that your company is now so cash poor you cant afford the incredibly expensive market rates that the shut borders have created?
Spare me a response with your naive solutions and accusations that basically amount to 'just fix it' with no tether to reality. You've literally offered no solutions, just misinformed rants.

Thats a gross oversimplification of the options. Real support is incredibly expensive, and there is a lot of it already in the business i'm working in. This demand spike is also largely COVID driven and the time it takes to get an agent up to speed is 3-6 months minimum. FAQ content is also being worked on but there is a huge amount of it, and most customers arent keen on sifting through it. So chatbot is being explored.
I think terrible chatbots are also a function of poor product decisions being made in the first place. I believe there is a time and place for them.

They seem to all pitch the same features (or very similar) and the actual NLP / intent recognition bits are a black box.
Running experiments consistently across them would be quite resource intensive but may be the only option.
I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and any insights around how they did it.

Instead it's replaced with Add a Shortcut, which for me on Desktop is not very useful.
Are they intentionally doing this to try and get me to use their browser based Explorer? But I see now advantages in doing so, either for myself or for Google.
Genuinely baffled. Many others have similar experiences too i'm sure. I'm still hurting over the removal of searching for Forum posts.

If anyone has worked in the travel industry especially around product or marketing I have a question. Why hasn't anyone built this yet?
I get emails from airlines telling me about all their deals to a continent, then seem to expect me to research all the destinations myself before I can even decide if their deal is relevant to me. In the age of personalisation this just seems so.. vague?

Myself and 2 friends wanted to help people make smarter decisions on big purchases. This is our story of committing the cardinal sin of startups.. creating a consumer travel product.
The Product: https://www.getcluey.com/en/explorer/
Once described it as a load balancer for tourists.
It's still a work in progress, the data is not perfect, and it's more of a tool than a product at the moment. But we want to share the concept and trade ideas.
Similar tools have existed in the past but not to this level of detail. The ones we came across in our research were generally vague and seemed to always suggest the same places.
We're new to travel. It's going to be a battle, but we're passionate about the problem we are trying to solve. Travel can be indulgent, but there are a lot of important benefits too. Injecting money into small, local economies. Meeting new people, seeing new cultures - breaking out of the bubbles we can fall into day to day.
Cluey's goal is to allow people to quickly search and compare travel destinations. Looking for places for a balmy beach holiday in October within 7 hours flight of you? Hard but doable. Try to overlay that with popularity, cost, rainfall, safety, activities, language? Hope you have a degree in data science.
Some user feedback we've received:
- I thought Armenia was dangerous and war torn, it's not? It looks beautiful.
- I was going to fly to the Bahamas but its probably because it's so prominent on American media. I couldn't figure out where in the pacific it's warm without tropical drizzle. Actually there's heaps, a lot cheaper, and a shorter flight.
It's not really going to help you already know exactly where you want to go and do there. It's useful if you have limitations or specific needs. Eg a popular one seems to be young families who only want to fly X hours with their children and would like to see what the options are.
