Social media existed before the iPhone/android. I remember needing to be at home on my computer to check myspace, xanga, and even thefacebook. Not sure how I feel about this article (it's interesting at least) but the existence of phones/apps does coincide with a lot of changes to our relationship with social media and a lot of changes to social media itself.

Perhaps without smartphones in everyone's pocket we would use social media much differently and that industry would have grown differently....

Super Tuesday was on March 3 2020. Amy Klobuchar dropped out on March 2 2020 and endorsed Biden. Pete Buttigieg dropped out March 1 2020 and endorsed Biden.

There were definitely some interesting things going on in the 2020 Democratic primaries.

If it makes you feel better.... On February 29, 2008 I was working on a system as a government contractor. Part of it was outsourced to a sub-contractor who decided to write their own date/time library because how hard could that be (which I only learned about later)? For some reason NOTHING would work right that day. Took me longer than I'd care to admit of staring at the logs to realize that some started with March 1 2008....

No idea why I didn't think to look into this more - but my bosch dishwasher has been driving me crazy since I moved into my current house. Thank you! I can now start a load of dishes right before bed without knowing I'll be incorporating a periodic beeping from the kitchen in my dreams!

Back on topic - if this thing could wash a load in under an hour that would be amazing. No idea what the author of the article is talking about...

Yours is an interesting story. And very relevant. It just isn’t applicable to one interesting aspect of the article being discussed which is that the sensitive data was sent to every user but was “hidden” by html.

But the shoot the messenger aspect of reporting vulnerabilities is also very relevant. It’s just the nature of forums like this that some things bubble up to the top and dominate the discussion. Hard to say it’s your fault for retelling a story.

Not only that, but the title of the post is, "I ruin developers’ lives with my code reviews and I'm sorry".

This person is so confident in himself, that he thinks his code review takedowns are so brutal, yet effective, that he is ruining lives. It almost comes off as "I'm so handsome that I ruin people's lives with my looks and I'm sorry."

And then there is this...

"I was mad that, while I spent my nights learning F#, my daughter started calling everyone around “fathers”. And this guy, instead of getting better at his job, went home to his children. And I wanted to punish him."

Uh, whose life is being ruined?

I'm not sure, but the person you're replying to might be implying that the CIA is busy online "raising awareness" and by that they sarcastically mean that the CIA is conducting an online misinformation campaign to discredit the people on the ground protesting.

I might be wrong though.

I visited the article after the title was edited, so I knew what to expect. And it far exceeded my expectations. I hate the palpable feeling that as a software engineer I’m part of an industry that is becoming harmful to society. And we are the ones doing or at least putting up with the excellent examples in the article.
