The mundanity of the last paragraph made me smile. That desire to just go back to normal -walking, debugging, comfort- after moments like that is incredibly under-rated.

With a 5G radio, this is so much more appealing than the Duo

> you're probably not the likely target for the offer

but if I was that employable, and offered that severance, I'd not give it one second's thought

and that's the problem, these severance packages are more often taken by the best people in the company

And none of this changes that

Huge decision, maybe toughest Apple's seen yet.

New comment by oliyoung in "Study shows cannabis is not associated with better sleep quality"

oliyoung — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 22:38:50 +0000

Can't have great "sleep quality" if you can't get to sleep, and cannabis is (personally) unmatched for it

New comment by oliyoung in "Apple HomeView"

oliyoung — Wed, 14 Oct 2026 02:32:41 +0000

I bet it'll use the CarPlay model, you have YouTube on your iPhone, it'll appear on the HomeView

Otherwise, my Google Nest is going nowhere

New comment by oliyoung in "Apple HomeView"

oliyoung — Wed, 14 Oct 2026 02:29:44 +0000

The "No apps" argument is premature

Pedantically, CarPlay doesn't have "apps" either, you have iOS apps that have CarPlay interfaces, I'd expect that this has the same product lines, ie YouTube will have a HomeView version.

Almost my exact response.

And the cruel tragedy is that it becomes this self-reinforcing cycle.

Sleep bad > "Bad" ADHD day > Harder to fall asleep. Rinse. Repeat.

What's your definition of "hacker"

In the Hacker News sense, its those of us who use tools to "hack" together solutions, not in the "hack" systems to gain entry

New comment by oliyoung in "OpenAI hacked Australian Medicare portal"

oliyoung — Wed, 23 Sep 2026 21:49:42 +0000

Saying "Medicare Portal" buries the lede a little here.

Medicare is part of "Services Australia", the larger social services government agency that looks after unemployment, support payments and public health. We access all of that through the one portal

Accessing "non-public" data through that is endictment on their infra security more than it is OpenAI
